License Plate 4-H Project

I got an email from a lady asking for my license plate guy's address. She got the plates and her DD made this neat art piece as a 4-H project for a fair. It's a photo collage of places they've been. She did a wonderful job on it and it also won a blue ribbon!! I was happy to get a photo of it and will send her the link for this post so she'll see it here. Linda

WOW, no wonder that got a blue ribbon! Awesome way to have special memories 'saved'. I love this idea.

Fun volunteer cooking project we are doing (Long Post)

The dinner went off very well. Everyone seemed to have a great time. The dining rooms were all very loud We had three rooms full of people to serve and 4 hearth fires (for the coals needed to cook at the main hearth) going so we were running around quite a bit. We had enough food for everyone with just a small amount left over on the meat. I was told one fellow went up for 2nds and 3rds for the Indian Pudding and vanilla ice cream!:) There was a young girl with a violin playing while the guests had their dinner and a soldier and traveler that stopped by and sat with the guests in each room. I stayed mostly in the back modern kitchen and barn keeping things warm in the ovens and watching the coal fires, washing dishes that could not go into the dishwasher. Wayne was out front more than I helping at the hearth and carving the roast. We only had one accident. There was a realitivly new person tending the hearth cooking. The cod cakes were cooked in a cast iron pan. She would put the hot pan on the table for me to take the cakes out and plate and serve. The cloth on the handle of the cast iron flatpan fell off. She, not even thinking grabbed the hot handle and burned her hand. Not badly, but enough to give out a yell. She was a trooper though and continued on through out the night cooking. Her hand was a bit red still at the end of the night but she said it was ok. I do have some pictures but have not downloaded them yet. Hope to have them shortly. Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. I think that oddly sized fixtures can be off-putting. Many home buyers are looking for an "ideal" and they can't see past that. If the tub is well made and the bath is located where it's most needed a shorter size tub might not be a problem. If the bath will be used by children then its size is less important, but children grow into teenagers. acm voiced a concern I had about the location of this bath to nearby bedrooms. My mistake in calling it water-resistant drywall. It looks like drywall but it's better referred to as tile backer board. It's most often 1/2 inch thick but I have seen a Hardie brand backer that was only 1/4" thick and came in 3 x 5 ft. sections. HERE is a link to more info on these. There are several types with differing properties. On toilet location, I don't think "obstruction refers to the nearest wall or fixture. I think it refers to something directly in front of the toilet. Looking at your floor plan an angled toilet would not have anything in front of it. There might be room between the toilet and the vanity for a waste basket.

OutsidePlaying, I came here to post a question about that very subject. I was never in 4-H, but I know that many children benefit from being part of their organization. It's fair time here and the kids will be showing the animals they have raised and then selling them at auction. As I do every year, I find myself wondering how difficult it must be to raise those animals from babies only to sell them for slaughter at the auction that will be held after judging is over. My question was in regard to how traumatized are the kids when they have to sell their animals or is it considered part of farm/ranch life and something every future farmer/rancher has to learn to cope with? I know that I personally couldn't do it but I also realize it's necessary for those who supply our food. My mom raised and showed beef calves when she was a young teen and the local grocery store bought her steers more than once. I remember her saying that she wouldn't eat beef for months after because she didn't want to accidentally eat one of the steers she had raised. Looking back, that probably wasn't a possibility since my grandparents raised their own beef, but she was that worried about it.

Very cool! I have an old set of license plates from my car that I saved when I got my handicap plates. I will have to check on some of your pictures to get some inspiration for using them. TFS!

Wonderful keepsake!! I see it was quite a trip! Included Mitchell Corn Palace in South Dakota & I see Montana up in corner so it must have covered a lot of states as Colo & Ky also there. Great job & Congrats!!!! Jan

I immediately sent this pic to my niece in Michigan. She is working with boy scouts and/or 4 H kids and looks at our forum sometimes for ideas. Thank you for posting!!

What a great 4-H project. I was in 4-H thoughout school and learned so much. I love to hear that others enjoy 4-H and always love seeing what they've made for the fairs. Punk

I will say the same!!! "How Cool is that!" I was looking for an idea for my family photo wall, Since we are a Car Guy family, I am gonna use license plates now to spell "FAMILY" in a frame that matches the others..Thanks Linda soooo much for the post!!!! And congrats to the 4H-er on a Job well done! ;)
