spring lawn care

Hi All,

I have reviewed previous posts on both the grub and crabgrass problems that many people fight. I guess I just need validation as a new homeowner (this is my first Spring at the house).

Last year we moved in and the lawn looked great! By late summer the front lawn was all crabgrass. Now it looks like a war zone. Come to find out, the little holes are from skunks(?) eating grubs. This weekend I used a steel rake a to remove dead stuff and there are large patches that are basically bare dirt. So, I am thinking that's grub damage. Then there's the dead crabgrass everywhere but I tried to scrape up a bunch of it with the steel rake to aerate a little.

So, is it safe to say that in my area of Southern CT it is now time to lay the Halts crabgrass preventer? I also bought GrubEx but I've read here that it won't work on mature grubs that have overwintered, only on newly hatched. Is it worthwhile to lay GrubEx now?

Thanks for the help on these issues!
