Hi everyone, Here is an update on my Poinsettia potted in a 10" pot, I bought it Dec. 06...third year its colored up for me! Congrats to everyone...yours are all doing great!!

NC, I can venture a guess...but that is all it is. I'm thinking since Poinsettias have so many different colors/variations and they are always hybridizing them, maybe they carry different color genetics in one plant. I can tell you what happened to me many years ago. I purchased a Red Poinsettia ( I only had one...so there was no chance of a mistake)...the following year, it bloomed White!! How weird was that?? That is why I'm thinking they must carry different color variations in their genes...but who kows I could be waaaay off,lol...

Thanks Theresa! Yours is not sad looking at all... I'm sure yours will be fine once it starts coloring up, it will go pretty fast. Mine gets a few hours morning sun, I think it helps the colors get more intense? At lease it seems to like it anyway...Good luck!

Thanks, pug! My poinsettia looks a lot nicer in the pix. I do have it in a south facing window so it does get a little midday sun in between the trees. I wish I knew why it loses it's leaves down the bottom. Any ideas???

Hi Theresa, I am so bad at diagnosing plants,lol. Are you using a free draining potting mix? Only guess is possibly the soil is staying a little too moist? I know here in the summer when we get a lot of rain(mine's outside 360+ days a yr), when the soil stays wet because of the summer rains, I lose some of the leaves below...but again that's just a guess? Also maybe low humidity? Hopefully it will stop dropping leaves...

Thank you, pug. I think you are right. The point is still in the soil it came in. I should have repotted it this year. It was doing so well outside during the summer I didn't think about it. When would be a good time to repot?

Since you live in PA...I would wait till your weather warms up. After blooming you can repot(using a fast draining soil) I use Al's mix from the container forum. Then you can give it a nice "trim" to keep the plant from getting leggy, making the plant fuller and compact. That would be the time you can take it outside to get some fresh air, maybe find a nice tree and place it underneath it. It can get a couple of hours of morning sun and shaded from the hot afternoon sun.

NICE beetle!! Looks like your doing something right, your plants looks happy and healthy, thanks for posting...have no idea what your red one is...but I posted a link below that has pictures of named varietes...maybe you can see if yours is in there. Had NO idea there were so many!

We use a balanced fertilizer, at half [or less] every watering. Every now and then, they get a flush with plain water.
