American Persimmon color

I found a persimmon tree growing wild in maryland along a highway (nothing unusal there). But the fruit are yellow. I know it's a bit early in the season so I considered that they might be in a process of changing color, but around here most wild perismmons get a red or orange hue to them as they ripen. These are entirely yellow already, and are a little bit larger (half inch to an inch larger?) than the average american persimmon. The tree seems to only be a few feet tall, maybe 3 or 4 feet, but has a fairly large number of fruit. The yellow fruit are acorn shaped, and I thought the leaves looked different than native persimmons, but just barely. They didn't strike me as the same. Is this just a normal variation of the american perismmon or could this be a japanese persimmon gone wild, or maybe a new variety of native persimmon?
