Hi from vegas!!! What is this plant ID?

This is my moms plant and she doesnt know what is it and also wants to give to me for some reason. Yay to me i guess!!! I wanted it anyway!

Vegas is super hot. Just enjoyed a mojito pool side!!!

I think it's an Aglaonema, a kind of arum like scindapsus and pothos.

Hey, Owen. I don't know if you'll see this, but I think I have a guess as to why your plants aren't fruiting.... first of all, are they flowering? If not, there might be some other issue. But if they are....the flowers need to be pollinated before they'll make fruit. If the plants spend all their time indoors, away from pollinators, you'll need to do the pollinating yourself. I don't quite know how you'd do that...in biology class they had us use a small paintbrush and spread pollen between flowers, but I don't know how well it'd work. Can you put the plants outside in the summer, so that some bees might come by and help you out? Best, Lara

Hi everyone. Nancy - Without seeing a picture of the flower on your plant, I can't be certain, but from what I see in your picture I would say it's Billbergia 'Foster's Striate'. To see a picture for later comparison with your plant, go to: http://registry.bsi.org/?genus=BILLBERGIA&id=847#847 I had it for many years just growing in the garden beneath a Peppercorn Tree where I had originally planted it in a hole containing 50% pine bark and 50% General Potting mix. I put about 2 tablespoons full of "Dynamic Lifter" (Pelletised Poultry Manure) on top of the ground around the base of the plant and just watered it overhead as required. The reason I don't grow it any more is that where I live it's noted for attracting Soft White Scale and Mealy Bug, which although not a major problem normally, they were for me as I don't spray insecticides and do have a collection of a couple of thousand other plants which I didn't want Mealy Bug invading. It is a beautiful plant which produces a magnificent flower head and is generally well worth growing for most people, but be on the lookout for these insect pests which in some areas will invade the plant, especially the area beneath the dead leaves at the base of the plant and from here they will spread to other bromeliads nearby. Often it seems shy to flower and I found that extra Potassium applied in a foliar spray seemed to encourage flowering. Just be aware if you use a fertiliser which is too high in Nitrogen you will usually get good foliage growth at the expense of flowers and foliage colour, so read the NPK ratio information on the packet and make sure the number of the "K" (Potassium) is higher than that of the "N" (Nitrogen) or ask a horticulturalist to recommend a good fertiliser with a higher percentage of Potassium than Nitrogen. Also remember that good light equals flowers and colour and I find that this plant likes 70% - 80% light (but no direct overhead sun) here where I live in Australia. Planting during summer in Las Vegas

This is probably the worst time to plant anything in Las Vegas but if you get plants that being grown in full sun and not under shade cloth those will probably be ok. I have a native banana yucca (Bacata) that has a pup if you would like it and also a thornless prickly pear baby that has a bloom! our twin flowered agaves did ok but they suffered some as did the blue flame but you might have a better microclimate. For a narrower tree we have Mulgas but they are silver not green and desert willow but those lose their leaves in winter.

Beautiful plant & lucky you. Your Chinese Evergreen looks very healthy. IF you are traveling by car, you might want to make sure it isnt in direct sunlight comming home.

Correct spelling is Aglaonema. There are so many species names and hybrid crosses that it's almost impossible to accurately name one of these plants. This one looks like the tried and true 'Silver Queen ', to me. So popular for a very long time.

I actually think that this plant could benefit from more light than it's getting now. And once you feel like you're confident enough to propagate plants in a real medium, you'll have so much fun starting more plants.

Very nice Aglaonema/Chinese Evergreen,
I have to agree with Rhizo...your Aglao looks like 'Silver Queen,' although there are new species that look similar.

Hey friends. Thanks all for the clarification. I thought it was a chinese evergreen. But let me clarify. My mom is in Johnstown, pa. I went there to drop the kiddos off for the trip.

The plant certainly doesnt need more light... It sits in moms sunroom with has very very high indirect light. If anything it needs love and water. My mom has been neglecting the plants recently as my step dad was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. So they have been in and out of the doctors getting biopsies and what not to see what stage and type to determine treatment. Its beeen pretty stressful. Anyways...

Vegas was nothing to write home about. Hubby got food poisoning and was out of commission thurs eve and friday morn. He is slowly getting better. Feels real weak and run down. But he did muster up strength to see the town. Not our thing.. Too fast paced and we dont gamble, at all. Key west is more our style. But at least we got to see it.

I miss the kids like crazy. Ateast we did relax, and that was most important!!

so sorry to hear your hubby got sick, speedy recovery to him. Hubby and I was in LV once and it was boiling outside and when you went into the hotel or it was about 50degrees. I nearly froze we werent able to turn of the AC in our room. I had to wear a jacket inside and take it off outside. Ridiculous.

Polly I cant stand when that happens. All summer I have to carry a sweatshirt with me. I hate freezing cold air conditioner.
