Painted & pretty headboard bench!

OK, I should explain, this is very old headboard that had a small shaped shelf on each side-that is where the middle shelf is. It is very heavy & only moving I did was to put it on plywood pieces to paint. I added some hooks on the end to put some hand tools. I was very happy with the results! Jan

That's perfect for storage. I thought it even looked good unpainted. Love your succulents I think I have some of the same ones. I like that curlicue wire trellis What are the pink flowers on it? And the gothic shape wire thing (fence?) What are the red flowers by it? That's really nice, it even gives you room on top to work.

LOL the rubber duckies have a purpose. There were screws sticking up out of the posts and I couldn't get them out. I put the duckies on to cover them up and make them look better as well as make them safe. I forgot to put that in my description.

Annie, that's great! You're very talented. :) I'm in total agreement with your praise of BIN! My cabinets are the same fake wood laminate, and I primed with BIN before painting them white. For this project, I was hoping the gel stain would stick better (it worked over the factory finish on the dressers with just a scuff sanding and deglosser), so that the faux grain would show through and eliminate the need for me to create the grain! Perhaps I'll leave it for last and see if I'm up for that, if the other projects go smoothly. I've never heard of grocery bags for faux graining. Was it hard? Pal & Dawnp, I wondered about painting the headboard to make it blend in. That's part of what prompted my post...I couldn't find an example like that, so I wasn't sure if it would work or look disconnected. It makes sense to de-emphasize a less attractive piece, though. An idea I had as I was drifting off to sleep last night was to take off the back and decoupage green patterned scrapbook paper to it, like when people have put fun paper or fabric lining the back of their bookcases, then paint the rest of it dark brown or white. I'm not sure it's tall enough to show much of the paper, though, and that would have the opposite effect from blending it in. I evaluated all the green spray paints at Ace (plus the copper patina kit, and brown hammered metallic), and nothing is quite the right shade to go with the wall color. The more I look at my inspiration pics, the more I think part of what appeals to me is the layering of greens. So, I think I'll mix up a quart of the next shade down on the color strip from the wall color. I still kinda like the paper decoupage idea for the back, even if it wouldn't show much. If the green doesn't work out, lukkiirish, I'll probably be painting it black! Always a nice fall back option.

G to G, The flowers to left in lavender & red/orange are geraniums, I got a piece from 2 neighbors,they get big so only problem is lot of trimming back! The ladder was curb find & already that short,rustic with scattered paint spots, by tree is a metal frog on a metal rod holding a yellow flower,he is kind of crazy looking & fun. The little green curlycue thing is a little trellis in pot about 18in. tall it's close to right end where the antique watering can is sitting. Pink flowers,ah,well, should I tell...My DS was looking at bridge construction all the way up to San Fransisco & by large bridge he saw this succulent It is velvety, gets big & covered the hillside then it sends out 6-8in. long spikes with little pink flowers on them. I told him he shouldn't have taken a piece but he said he didn't see any signs. Well, I'm enjoying it & it is reminder of his trip it is actually sitting behind the bench & it gets about 2 ft tall,whole row of plants back there covered right now with orange blossoms dropping so will clean out after they finish dropping & last item is red geranium start to give away once it filled out. You gotta love more storage, especially when it is done as cleverly as that. Great job, the whole little potting area looks like a great place to spend an afternoon.
