Enclosed Mini-gardens outside of windows?
Comments (3)Thanks, bahia. Now that you mention it, I remember seeing similar gardens at a condo--each unit had a fenced in patio with a door to a common lawn. Does this contemporary style of miniature enclosed gardens have a name? Does anyone know of any good books on this style of gardening? Thanks again, Bill...See MoreTwo Pot Mini Garden

Comments (2)Well, here are a couple of observations and a question or two. First of all, those are quite shallow receptacles to grow in. I actually thought your beans were doing quit well, considering what they were growing in. Also, any time you have a pod on a snap bean plant, you can pick and eat it. So, the pod you showed in the video could be picked. It looked to me like you were growing your beet and beans in an indoor porch. Is that correct? If so, then part of the problem is likely to be that they are not getting enough, or strong enough sunlight. If you keep them watered just right, without over watering and without letting them dry out too much, I suspect you will still get a harvest. The beets should produce larger roots, but it will take time. The beans, well, looks like they've already started. Hope this helps. George Tahlequah, OK...See MoreStarting another hosta mini garden
Comments (18)Linnea, my favorite nursery is The Growing Place in Aurora, another location in Naperville. Pop mama, I stored my potted hosta in my shed, put them away damp in November and pulled them out into the sun and watered them when it got warm, that was in late March this year. I also had one in a large pot that I tipped on its side on the north side of my house, this one survived also. Old dirt, I like your volunteer babies, hope they stay small gems!
