I Finally Repotted My Huge Ponytail Palm!!!
Comments (5)Hi Josh!!! Thank for the kind comments! This was a project that I kept putting off until I finally felt so bad looking at the massive roots in this container. It is a great feeling to know it is free of all of the congestion and the huge roots circling around the container. I feel better and I am sure the tree is very happy now that it can continue to grow and thrive in the same home, but with more room to grow. So nice to see you and thank you for your comments! ;-) Uaskigyrl... Thank you ! I love this tree too! Take Care, Laura...See MoreWhat happens if you decapitate a Ponytail Palm?
Comments (57)HU, I also have an older (~30 years) ponytail palm that is getting too tall for my house, and has never had 'pups'. After reading through the comments, these are my (uneducated) thoughts. The pups/branches/heads seem to form at injury points or due to stress, maybe? When I'm ready to 'prune' mine, I'm going to try to make 4 small cuts evenly spaced around the 'stem' about 3' above the top of the soil, to see if I can get growth there, while keeping the top of the plant intact at least for a while. On second thought, I think I will start by making just one cut on the stem. Then, if that one is successful, make more cuts later, with the goal of eventually lopping off the top....See MoreHAVE: have a few brugs, here's what I am looking for....
Comments (1)Where do you live? I have a gold brugmansia that was sold as a red, but it's pretty any way! Have cuttings started for a blue butterfly bush, bleeding heart vine, duranta (white, dark purple, lavender) and we'll see what propogates before our spring plant swap in San Antonio....See Morewhat is wrong with my ponytail palm? Comments (15)I agree. Not a Dracaena. Totally different plant. elucas, check out the difference in the leaf shape and the plant’s general appearance and habit in the original poster’s images & video as compared to the plant in the link in your post. The plant in your link has much wider and shorter leaves while the OP’s plant’s leaves are much longer & skinnier. Not to be offended, though. I have put myself out there before too and been wrong. In general I suck at plant id. It just happens that both of these plants are very familiar to me....See Morebirdsnblooms
