Comments (1)Ummm, ponytail palms aren't really PALMS (its a misnomer) they are really succulent trees. YOu might get a better response on the succulent forum...See MoreWhat do you think happened to this palm tree?
Comments (7)Jim, you are correct, I had the thermometer located right at the base of the spear. And, Yes, the damaged portions would be those that were closest to the wall of the enclosure. And - There was a 2 - 3 day period when the thermometer failed in the OFF (!!) position - when we were gone! - so the temps inside (at the base of the spear, anyway) got down to about 10 as I recall. So - let's say the damage is from the cold. What would you recommend? Simply cut the dead stuff off? Is there anything more I ought to be doing? What should I expect to happen long term as a result of this? Thanks in advance....See MorePonytail palm, what are you thinking?
Comments (3)Thanks for the suggestions. Actually she's in a nice very sunny window all year and the stalk shot out when I moved her to a less sunny spot for a few months. Now she's back in the sun. My question isn't why is she growing so slowly, it's about this vigorous stalk in the center. Is this just how these plants grow?...See MoreWhat's wrong with my ponytail palm?
Comments (1)Although commonly called a Ponytail Palm these are not even related to palms. They're more closely related to Asparagus. They come from hot dry climates and like to be in full sun. You need to keep them fairly dry, wet soil will cause rot. Water is normally stored in their thickened base which helps them get through drought. You also need to give it as much light as possible. Although, if they've been in shade for a while re-introduce them to full sun gradually....See Moremesembs
