The Radish, or, why should I grow them?

Apparently radishes are easy to grow, fast to come up, forgiving of newbie gardeners, and potentially quite pretty. So I'm pretty sure I should grow some. But! I've never eaten a radish- until this afternoon that is, when I went out and bought some to try. Raw & by themselves, I have to say, they're OK but not hugely exciting.

So people who are learned in the way of radishes: what do you do with them? Are they strictly a sliced-on-salad thing, or is there more to them than that? I have a whole bunch of radishes left in my fridge to sample, so recipes & serving suggestions would be incredibly welcome (I am also googling some recipes but gardeners tend to have the best cooking suggestions).

Also, what are the best or most fun radishes to grow? My priorities would be easy, pretty, and potentially unusual.

Thanks as always for sharing,

Slashy
