Cake tier Plate

I have lurking for quite some time and really enjoy looking at all that you all do. You are very talented people. This questions probably has been asked but I could not find it anywhere. I got some pretty plates and saucers and would like to make a two tier cake plate. Now my question is where do I get the pipe that goes between the plate and saucer? I plan on trying to drill through the plate and saucer and have a pipe between.

Hi Okiegal!
I wouldn't even drill your plates if I were you. I'd just use a glass candle stick (they are easy to find in thrift stores or dollar stores) between the two plates. A thicker one, or even a small vase could be used as a pedestal type base. Glue it all together with GE 11 silicone. Good Luck!

I agree with tasymo...I'd use a candlestick o something similar and glue it with silicone II. Post a picture when you finish your project!

YA'LLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!! The point is serving cake on THE STACKED PLATES! I learned it here on the forum from you!!!! You can have one in 5 minutes (cake not included) if you have the plates, candle holders, skinny vases. Ya'll saw chocolate and forgot how we can live larger for less. We are blessed. Our guests will think we are THE ACE OF CAKES if we use our stacked plates this way. Am I standing here with toilet paper stuck to my shoe again????? Have ya'll been making cakes forever and stacking them on the stacked plates????? OMG (grimmiced the newbie who just fell off the turnip truck). OK-OK-OK "Let them eat cake!" Terri, that's good, a SWEET gift! Luvs, yes, that is the Pier One plate. She has the same fruit w blue trim dishes, so it goes nicely. Thank you ladies, I am out of practice. I used to be able to whip several of those out in the time it took to do just one. I hope she liked it, the cake came out good, everyone seemed to enjoy it I also made brownies w cream cheese and choc icing.

judithva, I was worried about having them shipped, my husband didn't feel like running to any more stores. I set them up right away to see what they look like. The sundae cup I had already bought. It's true about being able to use them a lot. I just love them and right now they're sitting empty. I have a baby girl photo album almost done for the new little grandaughter. Got to get busy with the 10 grandchildren and great-grandaughters Christmas pails or cans done. Christmas just seems too close. linda

Bebe..............how funny in a very nice way! Everyone - just everyone does Yard Sales! And if they don't they really, really want to and are just scared - like you - to be seen at one....how brave of you to try! I don't go often because of the mileage to and from but when we do...we do it big! We make it either a ladies event or a family affair with a late lunch after shopping. On Labor Day Weekend we get together with about 8 to 10 other couples for the weekend, the guy go play mini golf or just hang out and we girls (and a few of the guys) hit the sales. There has been as many as 4 vehicles going from one sale to another and it is so fun. We make a list of things that we are looking for and give it to each group, so as we move around a sale if someone see something on the list they tell that person. We laugh and joke and most home owners have as much fun as we do! Many areas have block sales and these are really fun! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO go for it! Belle PS I used to feel guilty for not buying anything, now I just tell the owner thank you...and that seems to work.

The pipe that some use with a small totem is used like a garden stake. It is copper pipe from the plumbing department.

Tasymo was right about avoiding drilling the glass. It is risky and many 'junkers' reccommend putting the object under cool water to drill it.

I love Marlene's idea of the candlestick. I've bought cut chrystal candlesticks that would be gorgeous.

The GE Silicone II is CLEAR exterior door caulk.

A better food-safe adhesive is Aquarium glue. It works perfect on glass. Of course these items should not be soaked in the sink or put in the dishwasher.

I'm glad you asked this question...I have learned a lot on this site and just learned something new...I didn't know about the aquarium glue being safer for food...thank you for the info. ~Micki~

Good advice given. I just was at GW AGAIN yesterday (lol) and found one that is prob 10" high. Didn't get a chance to get pix. Will tonite so I can post for you.
