Birds in Chrystal Nests Chandi

This old light fixture was from freecycle. I painted it and glued the cups and birds in. I tried votive candles initially but found that the wind would not let them burn very long. The birds (from Cracker Barrel gift shop) are maintenance free.

Thanks all for the nice compliments! I did find the birds at Dollar tree thanks to Toomuchglass' suggestion. I used rafia for the nests...wound it on my fingers, then hot glued it in. Then just glued the birds on. The birds are really seagulls...they came on little logs. I got DH to cut that part off and they worked just fine. I may have to find another one soon and make one for the garden or gazebo!

Ahh yes, the math skills are really horrible (I don't know if this is just an epidemic in WV or if the whole US is calculator spoiled). I'll never forget one time I was at McDonald's and my total came to something like $4.96 and I gave her a $5...she messed up the register and was completely lost as to how much to give me back. I said "it's just 4 cents, don't worry about it"...but she said "well, then my register will be off"...so I waited for her to go get her supervisor who proceeded to use a calculator to figure up my change. I was completely dumbfounded. I'm not sure those were the exact amounts..but it was very simple math...so sad. The bad thing is I've seen several examples similar to this. For a short while while I was in college, I worked at Shoney's. I ended up quitting after about a month or so because the supervisor kept forcing me to work over when I had exams yo study for and things I really needed to get home to...but when I went in to quit, the manager came into the office and tried to talk me out of it because they had been having trouble finding people who can count back change! Amazing to me.

Thank you, Amanda, I'll be sure to tell Ashley. She just keeps getting it cut shorter and shorter, mostly because it's always a different color and she gets "icky" ends. LOL I told her she's gonna be bald soon, but she likes her hair short because it's easier to take care of. She's kind of busy with work and school, but you know that better than anyone, I'm sure. Elery really likes me as a redhead and is trying to encourage me to get it dyed regularly. I just hate sitting still for that hour and a half, so it's probably not going to happen more than twice a year, but thank you. I love the color, I just haven't decided how much I love it, and whether it's worth the time and money in the beauty shop. :-) Annie

haha...bee...that is why we have rules...so we CAN break them :) I love it another bee-utiful deal !! The poem is perfect and I love that library on 5th...have ridden my bike by it many times while in NYC. Gorgeous flower from disney natesgram ! Blakey...my Mom had a mirror like that and I sure wish I had it now..have no idea where she got rid of it...I loved that old mirror. Tina's toes and puppies tongue...MATCH !! kswl..it is too close to call...they are both precious !! riverhouse...another very talented DH on this forum. we are over loaded with them !! That is one very nice sign. Can we see the house ? I bet it is lovely too. Well we are almost at an end...so what shall we do ? that is sweet. You can get that type bird at the local $Tree also. I have several. I had them by a sign that said Angels and Birds welcome.

I love Cracker Barrel's Country Store. They always have quality, unique items for sale ... old fashioned candy, preserves, etc too. I also love their Chicken Fried Chicken, and their Sunrise Sampler!

I have a few modern Jadeite pieces I bought at Cracker Barrel, made for Fire King in Brazil in the '90s. They were discontinued because of quality problems. You can tell the difference right away if you're familiar with how the old authentic Fire King, Jeannette, & McKee pieces look. The real ones will glow under a black light.

Susie, that is really pretty, I never would've thought that chandelier would turn out so nice. Girl, you got it goin' on! ~tenderlee

Yes!!!!!! I saw some similar ones at $ tree. Mine are a little higher quality. But I would have bought the $ Tree ones and they would have been just fine. I actually purchased these last season on sale! But $ tree would still beat the price!!!

Ya'll please forgive my lowsy camara shots. I use to make terrific pics back before digital. (the good ol'days) I use to could spell too. lololololo

Very nice!! The birds may be fighting for position come nesting time, wonder if they would try to get the "birds" out of the "nests" so they could have them!! The birdhouse should get some action with all the birds around!! Jan

Very, very pretty, susieroses...love the fixture you salvaged and the color you chose...the birdies are just so sweet! Do they need some glass eggs in their nests? Just wondering??? Very cool! Jeanne S.

In the summer I put a table under that fixture. It is let down to a lower position so that the detail can be seen. I have thought of some kind of moss but had never thought of chrystal eggs!!!!! What a cool idea!!! I'll play with it some more.
