Wow---I've never seen a flower open like that. Way cool! If I can ever friggin' find a hoya to buy, I'll look forward to it (considering I can get it to bloom). :)

That is really great! It must have been something to watch! I didn't know you could actually see the pedals open. When mine is ready to bloom again, I'll definitely make it point to watch the magic!

I once saw a green bean plant come up out of the ground and grow almost to about an inch in size! It was great! I was so impressed! I've been cheering on plants ever since.
Even better to see a beautiful hoya flower like yours to open before your eyes!

I KNOW THE FEELING ! Every year, I sit on my patio around midnight and wait for my Night Blooming Cereus to open. It is like watching a magic show in slow motion. I watch in wonder as the flower slowly opens. No matter what one's religion, to me, this shows that there must be a far Greater Being to make something so magical!

WOW!!! I've watched other (larger) flowers open, but not a hoya. That must have been thrilling. Mine just finished blooming, for the first time. Would you believe it waited until I went away for the weekend, to bloom?!! LOL But I did get a pleasant surprise upon my return.

I will definitely watch them next time!

I didn't know what one of my plants were that the previous owner left for me, 1993,she had no idea as someone gave it to her.
You just solved my mystery!! I kept reading about people trading hoyas and had no idea what they were. In all the years that I've had it, it has only bloomed one time. Does yours get direct sun? I think mine might have been that year. Maybe I need to move it back.

I remember reading somewhere that if your houseplant is doing well, don't move it. I have so many that they are juggled around, usually to make room for someone new :)

The flowers smelled like chocolate Toni, they smell amazing, just like a chocolate cake mix. There is still a hint of fragrance there, and all the flowers are still hanging nicely, not sure when they will fall off, I am noticing nectar coming from the flowers now.

coatimum......I have my hoya growing in an east window, so it gets morning sun but the room itself is brightly lit all day by the east and south window.....I am noticing a few more flower spurs, it would be nice to see them open again in a few months. I move my houseplants quite a bit, but since I moved and have more windows, the high sun ones go in the south window, the flowering ones go in the east window, supplemented but the south window....and the lower light ones go in my living room which is brightly lit by a north window.

How lucky for you. I have two hoyas,a tricolor and a varigated green one . Sadly I haven't gotten a flower on either.

No Toni they aren't. The Tri-color is in an 8 inch and the varigated is in a 6 inch pot. They seem content where they are hanging(west window). I just wish they would get "excited" like Trace's hoya. I want to see some flowers.
Oh well I can always count on my Christmas Cactus to give me a flower or two.

Grice, are your hoyas really big? Those pot sizes are pretty large for hoyas. My large carnosa is in a pot that is probably 5" diameter (I can't remember right now...but I know it's not bigger than that). The only hoya I have in an 8 inch pot is my obovata, and that is HUGE. Most of my hoyas (and I have about 30) are in pots that vary from 2" to 3". The BIG ones are in 4 or 6" pots. You really might want to consider potting down. I don't know what hoyas you have (well, I'm assuming the "tricolor" is carnosa, but I don't know what the variegated one is, since many different types are variegated), but carnosa can take even 10 years to bloom. So if you really want blooms, one good way to try and get them (in my opinion) is to keep them potbound. Good luck!

Small 6" pots bloom food west window. They are growing like weeds but no flowers. Tracy your bloom is beautiful.

Hoyas can take awhile to bloom. I see compacta and possibly carnosa...what's the one in the white pot? Looks like mindorensis? Anyway, carnosa and compacta can take quite a while to bloom. Do you have east facing windows? Your hoyas might do better in that direction rather than west. Other than that, just patience! The only one that seems that it may do better in a smaller pot is the compacta...that pot looks a little big for it. But if you don't want to repot, no big deal. I would just keep taking good care of them...they will eventually bloom if they are happy! If you want a quick bloomer, try lacunosa. You can find that at most Home Depot's or Lowes. By the way, you're not doing anything "wrong"....my carnosa (first hoya I ever bought) still hasn't bloomed, and it's about 4 or 5 years old. It's growing like crazy, but no blooms. You're plants are gorgeous by the way. Good luck!

The one in the white pot is also a carnosa. It is all cuttings off the same plant. I tried selling it on ebay but nobody wanted it. I will continue to have patience. I'll be full of joy just like tracy when it happens to me. I will let everyone know.
