young persimmon can't keep branches up - what do I do?

I just returned from a 2-week vacation and have found that the branches on my 3-year-old persimmon tree are flopping down instead of standing up as before! The leaves are all healthy looking and the tree gets watered 15 minutes each morning using an automatic watering system. I tried tying the branches together above the trunk so that they support each other to some extent, but this isn't getting the tree back to the vibrant state it has been in up until now. Our weather has been unusually hot and windy the last few days, which might be the cause of the collapsed branches.

The trunk is about 2 inches in diameter and the branches are about 1 inch or less in diameter at this point.
