Ordered the last of my fruit trees

Oddly, through a couple of decades of gardening/farming, both in my backyard and helping dad who raised acres of crops, we/I never once raised "fruit" as in berries, grapes, trees, bushes. This year, a "fruit fly" bit me and I have yet to recover from the injection. I've bought and planted strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and two cherry trees.

I thought I had recovered from the bite, but apparently I was only in remission. Under a swoon and unable to control myself, I was driven to order another four fruit trees: A Pristine and Dayton Apple, Avalon Peach and Harglow Apricot.

They should be here in about a week, but who knows when it will get dry enough to plant them!

Haha. That's how it starts.

I a few years, you'll be like a heroin addict looking for the next fix -- "hmmm, where can I squeeze in those last three or four new apple trees. I know there isn't any room, but I just had to have Baldwin, Pink Lady, and Rubinette"

Trust me, been there, done that.

I started with 2 trees, and a couple of raspberries. I have 60 trees now, 12 blueberries, a couple of raspberry brambles. Nothing like fresh fruite, I picked raspberries, strawberries, nectarines, blackberries, and peaches yesterday. It is very addicting, I think I have room for another 10 trees.

Doan's nursery in Belt line road in Irving has many cocktail fruit trees. I would suggest to check this nursery for fruit trees, flowering plants and tropical plants. Be prepared to wait to get help and also make sure that you are getting the right plants because many of the plants don't have labels/pricing. I also noticed that many fruit trees are from California growers, so not sure how they would grow in DFW. Moreover, they do not give any kind of warranty to the trees.

two thumbs up for Schlabach's Nursery in New York! They are Amish so no ordering on the internet nor credit cards taken. They accept orders by mail only. They do use a phone for business purposes and are happy to answer any questions over the phone. Really great selection and pricing. I have purchased from them for my own use and for commercial purposes many times. David and his family do a fantastic job. They offer their apple trees on numerous rootstocks. Their catalog only lists the choices as "dwarf" or 'Semi-dwarf" but if you call and ask they will tell you what rootstocks the apple variety is available on. I always write on the order what rootstock I want and they honor my request. Located in Medina, NY.

This is very interesting! My nectarine tree lost all its leaves with no fuss before Christmas, but my little Anna apple tree, which is only about 5 feet tall and has been in the ground a little over a year, still has a lot of green leaves, and I keep wondering why, and telling it, "Go dormant, darnit!". Regardless, I will go ahead and strip them all off. Thanks. --Maureen

Lycheeluva, what made you decide to go with the Fairchild variety? I went back and forth myself between that and Cogshall but decided on Cogshall since a lot has been written about it. The Fairchild sounds good with its disease resistance and being from hot and humid Panama which might make it a better choice in a greenhouse. I've got that one on my list as my next choice if I can squeeze another one in.

I'm there! I figure if I can add a shelf to the back/top of my GH, I'll be able to raise at least two, maybe three more trees. I suspect the only cure for me is to sell my house, buy a farm and move to the country! It would need to be at least three acres though!
