Young but looks normal to me so I must be missing something. However, "lil jalapeños w/ bumps" sure don't sound like Marketmore either. Marketmore is a common grown hybrid slicing cucumber that is noted for its uniform size and shape.

Hey everybody! I'd still LOVE to know what I'm growing! I swear this thing is like a half-bred watermelon, primarily due to the hard, shiny "rind"..but it's still anyone's guess, I suppose..lol

Did you grow it from saved seed? If so,likely an inadvertent cross of who knows what.

Got em from Family Dollar this year. They're an inexpensive brand w/ seed of a fairly decent quality..but I just noticed another growing like this too.
IDK if it's from the same plant as the one pictured above tho.

The seeds

Is it on a vine with more normal looking cucs on it, or is it on a vine all by itself? Interesting!

I finally did the tracing of the vine (which I had to examine carefully cuz it looks like a frickin maze of stems, lol), and there are only 2 cukes on that ENTIRE vine..and it's just those 2 unique ones.

But here's the thing..

I just Googled "cucumber that looks like a watermelon" (I kno, I could've did this a while ago, but whatever), and a variety of things popped up.

The link I attached is the one stuck out the most!!

Anyone else think similarly? This one kinda required actual research, lol =D

Very interesting Drewski! Wow.....that's really cool. Yours look just like those. Are they heirloom cucs, and you might want to save the seed?

Cathy (if I can call u by that name :) ), I reeeeally wanna harvest those 2 & eat em, and most likely, I'll definitely save the seeds. How these things got into cheap seed packets like those is beyond me. Although I'm not really disappointed, I still SMH @ Plantation Products & their "American Seed" co. for not being that watchful....lol

I may harvest the older one either tomorrow or the day after, but I'm not entirely sure if it's ready to come off the vine yet..

You can try to save the seeds, but they likely crossed with the other cucumbers you are growing. So who knows what you'll get next season. Might be interesting, though.

Those are just some kind of melon. And I dont think they will cross with cucumbers BUT will/can cross with melons.
Armenian cucumber is the same ; NOT a cucumber but a melon.

Actually, you can use baby honeydews just like cucumber. Some other melons will have bitter seed and not edible at that stage.

Hey folks. So I cut it open..and looks what's inside.....

It smells like a cucumber, the inside LOOKS like a cucumber, heck, if I taste it...u get the point.

So I was a tad disappointed that it wasn't really anything more than a strange variety of cucumber that fell in the packet. I'll probably throw this one in a salad or something. Same day I sliced it, the guy who has "The Scientific Gardener" blog said this:

Thank you so much for the question. Those are some pretty cool looking cucumbers you have there. Unfortunately they are not cucumber-melons. The leaves, flowers, and fruit are all very much Cucumis sativus (cucumbers) and not Cucumis melo (melons and melon-cucumbers). Many of the American cucumber varieties of the C. sativus are bred for distinct spines - which your picture so beautifully portrays. My experience with many seed companies is that often the pictures on the package don't exactly match what the fruit looks like. If your cucumber variety turns out to be good for you - I would definitely keep growing it. "
