It smells like a cucumber, the inside LOOKS like a cucumber, heck, if I taste it...u get the point. So I was a tad disappointed that it wasn't really anything more than a strange variety of cucumber that fell in the packet. I'll probably throw this one in a salad or something. Same day I sliced it, the guy who has "The Scientific Gardener" blog said this: "Hi there Andrew, Thank you so much for the question. Those are some pretty cool looking cucumbers you have there. Unfortunately they are not cucumber-melons. The leaves, flowers, and fruit are all very much Cucumis sativus (cucumbers) and not Cucumis melo (melons and melon-cucumbers). Many of the American cucumber varieties of the C. sativus are bred for distinct spines - which your picture so beautifully portrays. My experience with many seed companies is that often the pictures on the package don't exactly match what the fruit looks like. If your cucumber variety turns out to be good for you - I would definitely keep growing it. " Woulda been cool to have a cucumber-melon, lol *shrugs* I'm totally blessed to have fruit nonetheless! :)

Just for the sake of chronicling this experience, I ended up spraying right after my last reply. It took about 3 mins and exactly 1 gallon to do all the trees and some shrubs. The wind was so calm and I knew it was my only chance. It rains here about once or twice a month yet it will happen when i need it to stay dry. It looks like some light sprinkles now.

How much water is it receiving? Looks healthy fo me. Look on underside of yellowing leaves for any black dots, which could indicate the start of a fungal disease called black spot. You can remove those leaves & any fallen leaves below the rose. to prevent the spores from reinfecting the plant. Also apply mulch around your roses. This helps prevent fungal spores found naturally in the soil from splashing upward when it rains or you water. The mulch also acts as a weed block and decreases watering requirements by keeping the soil below moist. Use about a 3” layer. Don’t pile the mulch against the canes either.

Shiegh, your plant is not dead yet, but if you don't do anything to elevate your watering situation, it probably more or less will be on it's way towards so -- you can just chuck it and consider buying a new plant and start over. If you want to do a rescue, it will always be a big learning curve, but if you really want a solution to your soil problrm, you might want to start by ordering a small bag online here, that's where I got my gritty mix. The prices are always on the higher side online, but for a $20 investment in a small bag of good porous soil + shipping will go a long way in keeping your plant's roots healthy before you will need to repot it again. If you plan to go on a budget, it can be achievable but it will be a chore and you will need to do your homework and source for 1) Turface and 2) crushed gravel/grits in your zoning. Trust me, it's possible and many people in this forum has done it before. Regarding the sunburning situation - "I feel like it won't get enough light" shouldn't be your biggest concern right now. Your top priority should work as the following: 1) Ensure the roots are healthy, and that is to establish a good watering routine in a well porous soil. -- Repot the plant into a gritty mix, give it a day or 2, and water the mix well. 2) Give it sufficient light, not direct light until the plant is recovering itself. So a windowsill with about 1-2 hours of sunlight a day works fine 3) Once you stat seeing signs of recovery.. IE new leaves growth -- you can proceed to fertilizing the plant. On and all, Step 1 to 3 can take you up to 2-3 months for a weaken plant like yours to begin showing signs of recovery. Remember, these are succulents not regular house plants, they are generally slow growers even if you can provide them all the optimal conditions possible. Your job now is to provide that and instill patience -- I'm looking forward to seeing your plant come back in leaps and bound. Bernard
