Looking for 'Guernsey Cream' or one just like it

My dear friend's clematis appears to have died after wilt hit it. She has looked at many large flowered white clematis with creamy anthers and feels that 'Guernsey Cream' comes closest to her lost clematis. We've looked at images of Candide (too white) and some others, but GC seems to be the ID so far.

Does anyone know of another large flowered, creamy white, single with ivory anthers?

Now, for finding it: Brushwood and some of the others either do not have 'Guernsey Cream' or have sold out (already?!). Wayside wants about $35 for one. Expensive, compared to Brushwood -- perhaps double. None of our local or not-so-local nurseries have this clematis.

Does anyone know why Wayside wants so much for a single clematis? Can anyone comment on the online "gardenerdirect" for quality of plant, delivery and standing by goods if plant arrives in unsatisfactory condition? Thanks.

I have received two "Guernsey Cream" from Birdsongfarm.com, they may be sold out now also. They seem to be very popular at the moment. I have never ordered from Wayside Gardens because the prices do seem high to me compared to other online nurseries. I did purchase two from a Ebay seller, they were very small, and so far are not showing alot of growth, I'm hoping they are just growing roots. They are healthy looking plants though small.
The two from Bird Song Farm had an incredible root system and have bloomed beautifully this past month. If you are not in a big hurry, I would wait until they are back in stock at Brushwood or Birdsongfarm. I have no experience with gardenerdirect.

Silver Star vinery has it listed, though the website says quantities are low.

Both these are far less expensive than Wayside and have stellar reputations, unlike Wayside.

I have ordered from Silver Star and have been pleased with the quality, but Joy Creek has an excellent reputation as well.

I have guernesey cream for many years and it has never done well for me. It is in mostly shade, but it does get some light. It has wilted, refused to climb, I had jsut about given up entirely. I was going to dig it out this spring as I had bought some new clems and I discovered it was growing like a weed. It's had only two blooms, but it is growing and as long as I keep up with it and tie it to guide it, it seems to be climbing upwards. I fertilized all my clems this spring with tomato fertilizer and I beleive it has really helped. If it doesn't get much taller, then I will move it next spring and put it somewhere where it gets more sun, whever that is.

gardengal: I know my 2-3 hrs sun isn't much good for clematis. I have a sweet autumn on my back fence facing north, and although it flowers (somewhat) in Sept. it looks nothing like the beautiful clouds of small white flowers on a neighbor's trellis. I thought that maybe the guernsey cream was an exception to the rule, but now I know it isn't. Thanks for the advice. Miriam

All of the red and pink clematis will lean towards blue rather than towards orange, so that should not be of concern. Look at Rebecca as a nice bright red type 2 or there are a number of pink ones: Asao, Dr. Ruppel, Bees Jubilee, Betty Risdon, Piilu aka Little Duckling, Nelly Moser, and Kakio aka Pink Champagne are all pinks that I have seen in US clematis catalogs at various times. I have Guernsey Cream as well as Rebecca, Piilu, and either Kakio or Asao, but the GS is in part shade down by the shop while the others are in full sun by the house, so I cannot really compare bloom times.

You were a huge help to me and soon a 'Guernsey Cream' will be in my friend's garden again.

Honestly, I looked all over and didn't see those nursery sites that you recommended. Happy digging and sniffing. Here our lilacs are in full swing along with Korean spice viburnum and magnolia 'Jane'.
