Am testing a photo post. Seems Photobucket's changed some since I was last in it. Let's see here ...

I bought this recently at HD in Manhattan, pretty cool find. I haven't seen this before, looks like extreme colors KQ, w/ very variable leaves including some smaller, carnosa looking variegated leaves.

Looks like you may be the proud owner of a Krimson Queen. The hoya forum here is awesome and can confirm it and give good care tips.

I didnt do that many this year, mostly common annuals I normally would do anyways, but I didnt have any failiures at all, 100% germination for me, all commercial seed as well. I know in the past, regardless of where I get them, I barely ever get any larkspur or salvia, Salvia however I learned grows great under lights, so the few times I did them , I just potted them up late in the season on the heating mat and they did very well.. they also barely need hardening off, so no issues there either. Celosia is another hard one and kmotgg are both terrible here to try. I keep going back to larkspur, probably tried 20 different jugs over the years and got a measly 4-5 plants out of that... Ive given up on them completely.

Will- Your Abies balsamea 'Piccolo' looks okay to me. Abies fraseri 'Fastigiata Compacta' - this is likely the result of propagation of a side branch (tertiary, horizontal, rather than secondary vertical) and would be considered a cultivariant. It should develop a leader within a few years. Unknown fir: look up Abies forrestii Abies koreana 'Glauca' - could be 'Glauca' - do you have a spring/early summer photo, would be easier to make a guess. Abies koreana 'Green Compact' is likely the same as 'Compact Dwarf' Cheers- Brent

Picture is not at all clear enough to determine if replanting is necessary.......but it doesn't look great. First, planting high - top of rootball above soil level - is seldom an issue. In fact, it is preferred over planting too deeply. Second, there are mixed discussions on whether or not rootball wrappings should be removed but at the very least, any fastenings - rope, twine, wire, nails etc. - holding the rootball intact need to be removed. If wrapped in burlap, that should be pulled away from the trunk of the tree and ideally off the top and sides of the rootball as well. Third, the root flare or where the trunk widens into the root system should be at ground level (or slightly higher) and not covered with soil. Any mulches need to be kept well away from the base/trunk of the tree - about 6" is good.

Shawn..So I'll bet you can never go to Lowe's or Home Depot without visiting the plant section, right? That's me..In fact, I am always frequenting the outdoor plants section too..I must spend a fortune on that stuff, but as for the houseplants, I am always leary like you...Good choice at leaving it there since you heart was telling you not to get it...I don't like plants that harbor mealy bugs either, especially the palms do, although if that was not the case I would have hundreds of then surrounding me in every room) Have you ever tried Jades or Fragrant plants?

Thanks Tiger, that's what I meant by KQ (Krimson Queen).

Oh my gosh, that's the Hoya I've been looking for the last couple of months but never knew the name of it!

My husband bought me a large one like that 20 years ago and it came in a rectangle, pink vintage container. It lasted for quite awhile and the pink was just gorgeous!

I bought three smaller Hoyas not long ago but couldn't find the one you have. Now that it has a name, I'll be on a search for it online!

Hi Karen,

Nice plant. It's fun to buy plants, isn't it? lol I wish I could buy new plants. We are bursting at the seams with plants. I did get a new petrocosmea at the Denver African Violet show last week though. But it was a replacement for one I had pretty much killed. The lady was the same one who sold me the one last year. I was telling my sob story to her and out of the kindness of her heart she gave me a new one. I really wasn't looking for that as I knew it was my fault for killing it. Nice lady!
