Best north-window, low-light plants?

This past winter has been a cloudy one. My Schefflera, now 10 years old, seems to have suffered. So has the Orange Flash that I was giving a try (acquired it a little over a year ago). My Christmas cacti and some of my vines are doing pretty well, though.

My question is, in a situation where the nearest source of natural light is a mid-size north window, and where the latitude is 50 degrees (low winter sun angle), and where cloud can be at least as common as winter sun, what plants would you recommend? Your favorites?

I like mid-size or large plants. I have enough vines! Room temperature stays well above freezing.

Please include common names (I don't mind Latin binomials when they are in addition to common names).

Thanks.....

Joel
