I'm still waiting. I did get a late start this year. Last year at this point I was picking broccoli.

This is my first of growing brocoli sucessfully and I've been gardenning for 10+ years. I got tons of brocoli, however I did not do well with cauliflower.

Out of the two dozen brassica plants I put out, only five are still hanging on. The heat and the bugs got the rest.

My area, Southeast Idaho, is pretty cool.

We've been in the 90s the last few days --- but only the last week. Our nights are down in the 40s and 50s.

I'm at the end of my broccoli harvest. . . roughly 20 heads. Now, I'm getting sideshoots from my Premium broccoli. The Gypsy didn't have any --- I just pulled the plants.

We only planted three or four broccoli plants. Of those, one was not planted deeply enough and never took off. The other three showed nothing until we had an enormous rainstorm about a week ago. My hubby took me out to the garden tonight so he could weed and I could cut the broccoli. Lo and behold--two large heads of it.

This is the first time any broccoli we planted has done at all well. I don't know if it is the variety or the fact that I asked my hubby to plant the broccoli in one little patch, and the brussels sprouts as far away from that as possible.

Also, one enormous artichoke plant is right next to the broccoli...

Or could the broccoli have sensed that a pirate gourdlike bitter squash plant from wintered-over seeds was headed its way?

Here in Central Wisconsin an early start for the broccoli requires the wall o' waters. It is worth it though because the broccoli is matured before the loopers or anything else is eating them.
My Packman worked very well but the Green Goliath just did not produce good heads this year. They were big, just not good. I kept 5 plants for sideshoots for the remainder of the season.
