These plants also wilt when they are over-watered. Root rot is one of the primary causes of problems for peace lily, I'm afraid. They often sit in excess water that has collected in the plastic lined wicker basket, slowly but surely losing a great deal of their root system from sitting in water. Fewer roots = wilting.

Then we water more and more, thinking that the plant is thirsty! ;-)

You might want to unpot your plant and examine the roots and soil volume for sogginess. I'll be very curious if this is or is not what the problem is.

So when I unpot this thing if all is well with the root ball and it's not sitting in water, etc should I pot up a size or leave it as is? What is the best kind of soil to use? Do they prefer plastic or ceramic or does it matter?

Do you know much about corn plants or rubber tree?

I took the peace lilly out of its plastic container while it was wilted last night and the roots are good in color, the soil is very dry and there was not any water in the plastic liner of the wicker basket. Seems like all is well and it was just asking for a drink. Thanks for your concern and advice.

Letting the plant wilt over and over can kill off roots and lead to rot.
Let the top inch or two start to feel almost dry, or near dry, then water well.
Only re-pot when it really needs it, when the roots are more than the soil, or when the roots are wrapped around and around throughout the rootball in circle's .

Reg soil is fine, just make sure it's fast draining. You can add Perlite to the soil which will help.
You can use a plastic or clay pot, as long as it's watering needs are taken of. I use a large clay pot. Other's prefer plastic. Even with clay, I only water once a week because it's large. With a plastic pot, you'll water less.
