Prune out fireblight canker on pear tree now in spring?

In February I planted a new Tennhousi pear tree in my backyard. Since then it has developed a canker around a stub from a branch that had already been pruned when I purchased it from the nursery. To me, it looks like a canker from overwintered fireblight. I'm not sure what to do about it. It's right near the bottom of one of two leaders on the tree, so I would have to prune off both leaders - essentially all the foliage - to cut a good 8" - 12" below the canker. Should I do this now? Everything I read talks about pruning out fireblight in the winter when the bacteria isn't active. I'm guessing I run the risk of having the new pruning cut infected if I prune it out now. However, The canker has nearly wrapped the branch, so I'm thinking that if I leave it until winter I risk losing the tree anyway. Is there anything I can do to reduce stress on the tree and improve its chances if I prune now? Should I prune it now?
