Please tell me how is this even possible...
Comments (39)I'm sorry for the loss of your dear friend. "Suddenly" is a terrible shock, and more rare today with modern medicine and (hopefully) better eating habits. DH's father collapsed at 55; got up to use the bathroom early one morning and died of a heart attack. He was overweight and a smoker, but his last physical was OK. A favorite uncle of mine fit the same pattern. "Indigestion" one evening became a fatal heart attack at 56. The fit father of 4-year-old twins came off duty as a Chicago cop; locked up his gun; took off his uniform; laid down for a nap with one of the twins curled up beside him...and died in his sleep. He was 38. All hearts do stop. My mother found my grandmother, 93, fully dressed, sitting in her favorite bedroom chair, waiting to go downstairs for breakfast. Mom 'missed her' by about an hour. Does everyone here know CPR? This thread might encourage us to learn....See MoreIs it even possible?
Comments (6)It is possible to burn with enough of anything artificial, or manure that is fresh, but doubtful with what you are using. I have fertilized Bananas with Miracle Grow every 3 days all summer with no bad effects, it was enough to burn the native weeds growing around them, but the Bananas just get getting bigger. I have seen people scoop the blue fertilizer straight into the pots and water it, but I have yet to try that lol, and probably wont as it seems harsh. Tropicals are much different in nutrition requirements than the plants that normally grow where I live. My Brugmansia can be fertilized full strength every couple of days without burn, and sometimes that's the only way I can get them to form buds. Biggest problem I have had with over fertilization with tropicals is not burn, but it can throw the soil chemistry out of wack, and bind up certain things like calcium, magnesium due to antagonism, and can actually cause deficiencies. Anything too acidic, or too alkaline will do this also, making the nutrients unavailable to the plants, even though you are feeding them like crazy. At a ph of 5.5, my bananas start to get some calcium issues. Only thing I have used that will change the color of banana leaves to a light yellow green is epsom salt, and to me it proves foliar feeding does indeed deliver nutrients through the leaves, because the next day after spraying, the leaves always turn a lighter green. Bananas will fold like that when it gets hot, even when watered properly, it reduces the surface area to the sun, and keeps them from losing too much moisture....See MoreReusing granite - is this even possible?
Comments (10)I will say that in our insurance fight the insurance only wanted to pay for the portion of the floor that was damaged (about 40 sq ft). Prior to filing a claim I spoke with several companies about piecing new floor into the old floor. Because it was natural maple and 8 years old they all said there was no way that it would match due to the wood ambering over time (I knew this before calling, but I wanted ammunition). Well, wouldn't you know that is what the adjuster started in with. After showing him my full replacement policy (and where it says it has to be put back together like it was) he said he would have to get back to me. 3 hours later he called me back and said he talked to his manager and they would be replacing the entire floor (and removing and reinstalling the cabinets so the floor would run under it like it was currently). I'll never not have a policy that has replacement cost. Having a countertop that doesn't fit like it should wouldn't meet my standards, and I would fight that fight. However, I probably would have had to let them at least try to make the old granite work. Hopefully it all works out for you in the end. On another note, though. Someone mentioned buying new material and letting the insurance pay for the install. We basically did that. We took the money from the removal and reinstallation of the old cabinets and put it towards the cost of new cabinets and installing wood throughout the first level except the bedrooms/bathrooms (about 600sq ft additional wood). We're basically getting a 35k remodel for 15k of our own money. This might be the time to put some of your own money into it....See More*Freestanding* tub filler with OVERHEAD shower - is it even possible?
Comments (8)Thanks so much for commenting! I would love to consider a wall-mounted extension arm as an option, but I haven't been able to find one that is long enough. If you have suggestions for sourcing, please let me know. Also, we're moving to more modern-looking chrome fixtures, and the freestanding options that I'm finding are either rather Victorian or the handshowers have a shape that really is not conducive to using as an overhead shower (e.g. see attached photo for the most common modern option). If we can source an extension arm, do you think we would be able to replace the handshower with a more functional option and replace the attached tube (so it can reach the extension arm)?...See Moretropicbreezent
