Is it even Possible to be Cheaper than this?
Comments (39)My husband works for the county prison and when the towels that the inmates use start to get holey, the county purchases new ones and throws the one ones away. My husband collects them before they go to trash and brings them home. (Garbage bags full) We rip them up and use them for rags for things like washing the car, washing windows, dusting, cleaning the grill etc. By the way, he does bring these from work but he has approval to bring them home instead of having them thrown away. As for me, I work at a hospital. Whenever we get a new patient, they get a welcome pack that includes a large water cup with a lid and anti-embolism stockings. A large amount of the patients don't even open the bags that they come in so when they get discharged, if the bags are still sealed, I take those two items home for use. (I ask my nurse manager first!) I give away a lot of those items to friends and family. The stockings are terrific and cost 10 to 15 bucks at the store....See MoreReuse possibilities for kitty litter container?
Comments (22)Do you think that storing water for an extended period that you planned to drink or use for cooking might leach out some of the unpleasant chemicals in the plastic? I'd want to fill it with water, let it stand for a while, preferably in the hot sun, and use it to flush the toilet about a dozen times before I used it that way, I think. My landlord buys weed kller in about 4 - 5 gal. jugs and, after rinsing several times and letting stand a while in hot summer sun, I use them to carry water down to the other end of the garden, that I can't reach with the hose. Haven't heard any complaints from the plants, yet - or lost any. The cucumbers, melons and squash, plus tomatoes, sometimes suffer from blight ... but that's well after they've been watered from the jugs, a number of times. Suzie, if you were to get a piece of mesh with apertures of about 1/4" or slightly more and fit it into about a 12-18" square frame of wood, with a container to put under it, perhaps you could run the used litter over it and get another use or two out of it? Make a funnel of cardboard, or cut the corner out of a cereal box, or use a margarine/yogurt container to refill the jug. 'Twould be especially helpful if you could train the cat/dog to use one litter box for the one kind of waste and another for the other. First idea - straight goods. Second - somewhat tongue-in-cheek. ole joyful...See MoreRe-using granite
Comments (4)It might be possible but you will have to be very careful removing it, and even then, there is the possibility it may crack. Then you will have to pay the fabricator to haul it back to the shop to fabricate it. Since much of the cost of installed granite is in the fabrication and not the material, you will really not be saving much financially, although this is a great "green" option, i.e. you will be saving resources. The fabricator I use charges only for the fabrication and not the material for remnant pieces, so in this case using a remnant would actually be less expensive because you are avoiding the cost to un-install and haul the material. This of course depends on the fabricator. I am a KD btw. Good luck!...See MoreReuse Granite ?
Comments (2)Talk to the cabinet installer and the granite installer ... they can examine your counters and decide how to best do this. The big failure point will be where there are cutouts. Have a plan for dealing with them if they snap....See MoreTaylor's Cabinets & Interiors
