Can someone identify this plant???

Hello,

Can someone help me identify this plant? I bought it a year ago and it did not come with a tag with a name. The moment I brought it home it lost all of it's leaves and since then I'm unable to make it thrive. A friend saw a picture of it and told me it's a jade, but when I looked online at pictures of jade plants they look nothing like my plant. The leaves of my plant are thin and not thick like a jade I saw. It also looks like it has bark like a tree. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It's me again. I thought I'd add that the plant had a flower on it when I bought it, but it fell off with the leaves and it has not had a flower since. Maybe it will help with the id if you know it's a flowering plant.

it looks like a desert rose. (adenium obesum) that is my guess!

We can probably tell you the genus, possibly the species or hybrid, with a good photo. The best angle is not straight above or directly at the side, but halfway in between. Feel along the edges of the leaves. Do you feel spines? If not, it is probably a Guzmania or Vriesea or possibly a Tillandsia. Send the photo and tell us about the spines - I'll give it my best shot!

Doesn't look very Gesneriad... SInce you were buying Monarda - which is a tough perennial - I would think that you got something for the similar conditions. Can you try to contact the outfit you got this creeper from? With a photo?

LowApe - Colchicum has 6 stamens Crocus has 3. There are Crocuses which flower in Autumn but yours is definitely Colchicum. All parts of Colchicum are very poisonous. Just to make things even more confusing Colchicum is often called Autumn Crocus in common parlance but it is in a different family to true Crocuses. Another common name for Colchicum is Meadow Saffron which is also very misleading as there is no connection to true saffron which is a Crocus.

If the leaves really are spear shaped it doesn’t sound like Amaranth. It has to be a monocot, something like a bulb or a grass. Yoyobon, can you describe these leaves in more detail? And so far you haven’t given us any idea of where this is growing in the world or what sort of habitat it’s in. Garden? Wild? Forest? Meadow? Bog? Could it even be a Typha?

Mlena, Jay is correct. It's Adenium or commonly known as Desert Rose. It's a succulent, so don't overwater in winter..it will rot.
If you place in bright light in addition to artificial, new leaves will sprout..the flowers are beautiful..blooms come in different colors: pink, red, white, and even bi-color, such as pink and white. Toni

Thank you Jay and Hopeful. I am so very excited to know exactly what plant it is. I spent hours on the internet browsing pictures of plants and I thought it was some sort of a ficus so I started to spray it with water. It seems to be helping, since there are more leaves coming out. I wonder if I should just continue doing that or stop. Once again thank you for your responses.
