what can be done to stimulate bean growth/production

I planted bush snap beans that did very very well, and after a few weeks of regular harvesting, they dramatically slowed down, meanwhile I started planting other batches of them elsewhere in my garden(s). These plants NEVER caught up size wise and production wise to their predesessors.

I followed a suggestion I found on GW about cutting back the first original plants to get them to start over. IT"S WORKING! and in fact after chopping them back (I cut back to about 6 inches rather than shorter) they are once again starting to produce beans.

The others, still are wimpy and not doing much, (Same seed, same variety, and at least one sucession planting of these is in the same soil as the first batch).

What will help?
