Yes, that tree is very cool and it has great variegation. Is this tree on your property? If not, I would see if you can dig the tree to move it somewhere safe. Someone could find it and think it's diseased and destroy the tree. Also, once the tree gets larger it won't be easy to move. Now that the tree is in-leaf, I would maybe wait until fall to dig the tree. If there is any danger that the tree will be destroyed, move the tree immediately. This year I used those foil roasting pans with the clear, snap on lids. They are what I've had the most luck with in the past. No, I'm not organized enough for records. Half the time by spring I'm mad cause I don't know what's growing in which container! This year I'm trying an "industrial strength" Sharpie marker. I do have a pretty good memory, fortunately. I will definately wait on the zinnia. The sunflowers are all annuals but I'm pretty sure I had good luck once before. Also, there's a restaurant down the street that has beautiful sunflowers every year. I asked the owner what they were, figuring he plants them, and he said he has no idea, they always pop up from the previous yrs seeds. Guess that's a good sign. I'm glad to be back to winter sowing... it helps pass time during the cold weather! 5 degrees this morning!

I forgot to mention that in addition to using the SpotShot for the obvious - spraying the roses, we also use it for applying the Bayer soil drench and it works great. Just take the spray tip off so that you get a stream of water when the trigger is pressed. I count how long it takes to fill a quart, then go from rose to rose counting to approximate the quart. Sure beats mixing and pouring under each rose. Easier on the back - and much faster. Probably could also use it to apply the compost tea if it is strained first.

UFO!!!! I graduated HS the same year Jodi. While I loved Rock, I eventually turned into a real disco boy. Grew up where they filmed Saturday Night Fever, Danced at Studio 54 (did way more than dance, but the kids are reading this post...LOL)I was also one of those New Wave nuts for a while, you know, green / blue pony tail, ala Duran Duran hair...scary, but damn those were some great times in NYC. Larissa, that Basuto is beautiful even if you don't think you're getting the color correct. And Wedding Dance is gorgeous, have you tried a Ludwigs Dazzler yet? The little H. Larissa I have has not grown any leaves yet but the bulb seems to have grown quite a bit in size, can't wait for the sunroom to warm a bit more at night, that's when the growth will start. Lar, the Papillio babies are holding their own, and I think we may have talked about an aphroditie? they are recovering nicely from the bulbfly surgery and seem to be enlarging. I find the aphrodite to be evergreen, the forced dormancy last fall 07, was not appreciated by the bulbs. They are also repeat bloomers for me, 3-4 stalks a year. Spring and summer from surprisingly small bulbs for the amount of bloom. Now, you're starting to sound like Jodi with her soil, back away from the Basuto... Gotta get me a Basuto, Black Pearl, or even a Red Lion. Can't believe I have no solid red here! Zombie is showing signs of a stalk, Piccolo, and Jungle Bells (thanks for the JB Mariava)are as well.
