from my experience, I used to breed rabbits, I had one that was alone for quite awhile, and when I introduced a new one, he was a male, and i got another male, BIG NO NO!!
they will fight to no end, I then tried to get them separated and I ended up getting bit by one, his teeth got caught in my ring and I had to then wrestle the other one off of me and the rabbit.
If you do get another one, get a female, and just get him neutered.
But he is probably just as happy being the main focus of the attention as it is right now. As long as he didn't have a companion and then lost it suddenly, it shouldn't be a problem.
I never kept any companions with my rabbits after that experience and they were all just fine.

Rabbits are by nature solitary, getting together only briefly to breed. The only time rabbits stay together in nature for any length of time is when a mother rabbit is raising her young. And even then, she only goes to them to feed them.

It sounds to me as though Cad gets plenty of attention. As with many animals, he may be a better pet if he is neutered. Some male rabbits spray their urine to mark territory which can be a problem if Cad lives indoors much of the time. But at the age of two, he is likely already doing that if he is going to.

One thing you can do for Cad is to get him some simple toys, especially ones he can grab with his teeth and fling around. My son's rabbit, Buffy, had a cat toy, a wire ball that came with a jingle bell inside. We took the bell out for Buffy's safety and she really enjoyed tossing it around and slam-dunking it into her water bowl. Rabbits like that kind of thing. Lots of them enjoy music too. If Buffy was upset, the Righteous Brothers singing "Unchained Melody" would make her happy again.

It sounds as though you have lots of pets, Genny, and I know you do your best to learn all about them. Keep up the good work!

Maggie, Cad stays outside in a rabbit hutch. During the day I let him stay out in the pen and at night I put him back in his hutch to sleep. Sometimes we let him inside the house to play and wander around. I think he likes it qwhen he comes in.

I guess for now I'll just let him be the way he is. But, later on maybe I will get him fixed...thanks...

I would have to disagree about rabbits being solitary creatures. I beleive they do enjoy some interaction, but your is probably getting some from the duck, even if they seem to ignore each other.

I will say that nuetering him would be a good idea. I have a female Holland lop. We got her spayed before she was a year old. She kinda went crazy when she went into her first heat - lunging at us when we would feed her, grunting at us, pulling her hair out (to make a nest etc). All of this behavior stopped once we got her spayed. She is over all a more well adjusted bunny. Hell, I wish I could get rid of my hormones now and again. She is 4 years old now and when people meet her they say "Wow, she is so relaxed and sweet, most rabbits are so skitish". I truely believe this is due to getting her spayed.

A friend of mine rescued to male bunnies a couple of months ago. We have no idea how old they are, the vet guessed in the 2 year old range. We got the first one nuetered a few weeks ago and have seen an instant improvement in his temperment. Now we just have to get the other one nuetered so they will stop having pissing contest, I swear they try and see who can spray the furthest.

On that note I will say it sounds like you are doing just fine by your bunny. I worry more about bunnies that are out in an outdoor hutch all day with NO interaction what so ever with animal or people. But if you did decide to add a friend (which I just did 3 months ago) I would recommend nuetering your male and adding a spayed female. Male and female sets tend to bond better. But even then it doesn't always work out. I am thinking next time I am going to work out something with a rescue group where I can "test drive" bunnies until I find one that clicks with my current bunny. I am not sure that our princess (read spoiled brat) is ever going to bond with the new friend I brought home. Currently she just turns her back on her or thumps her feet and runs off. We'll see

If I did get a female rabbit and got them both fixed--I'm not saying I am--but just incase...what age should the new rabbit I get be? Would it be alright to get a young rabbit? Or should I get an older girl? I thought that maybe a younger one would be more sweeter....
