which tasty tomatoes do you recommend?

i am growing tomatoes which i got the seeds directly from the tomatoes sold at supermarkets.

since many of you told me that those tomatoes don't taste good, so i want to try to some new species.

i have seen some live tomato plants that are sold at walmart and homedepot, are they any good?

or if anyone has any seeds, can u send me some?

Tomatoes gotten from the grocery store are typically a hybrid variety, meaning that they won't grow true from seed. They may produce a tasty variety, but won't grow the same variety that you got the seeds from. The seeds in those tomatoes have reverted back to the traits from one of the parent plants used to product the tomato.

Any plant sold at a garden center will produce a good tasting tomato. Again most of the ones sold at Wal-Mart or HD will probably be hybrids so you won't want to save the seeds.

IMHO some of the best tasting tomatoes are Heirloom varieties. Common ones that you may be able to find include Brandywine, Green Zebra, & Cherokee Purple.

I grow about 40 different varieties of toms. And every year a different variety shines. The flavor of a tomato depends on the weather and each year can be different. A couple years ago one of my favorites was Green Zebra, but last year Kelloggs breakfast was the winner, and while the GZ's were good last year they were not great.

You don't list where you live...so at this point in the season I would recommend that you buy plants from the garden center. In many areas of the country it is too late to start toms from seed. No matter what variety you get they will taste better than anything from the grocery store, since you can let them ripen to the peak of perfection right on the plant.

I believe that the answer to your question is a matter of taste! (pardon the pun) Different people prefer different tastes.

I suggest you just try a few and decide what you like for yourself. The one that I've heard the most positive things about recently though is Cherokee Purple. I haven't grown it or tasted it myself, but I plan to grow it next year.

Hi, I am a newb to tomato growing myself. 1st it sounds like you want a "indeterminate" type of tomato plant. Once the continues to vine and bears fruit all season. As opposed to a "determinate" variety, where all the fruit matures in a relativly short time frame. ...so atay aware of those differences when making your selections . This spring I bought seeds from a online seller ( tomatofest ) and I am have very good results for my money. About $3.00 for a pak of seeds and I am getting about 80% germination rate. I looked on his webiste and he ship to many countries outside the US. Hope this info helps and take a look at the site ( I've got a link to it below ). Some early varieties are quite good. I do not believe that EARLY means it can't develop GREAT FLAVOR. But it varies from year to year and garden to garden. And also varies by personal preference. Personally, I will gladly trade the dozens and DOZENS of really good early tomatoes for the 1 or 2 late season ones that I finally get in September. I'm a flavor connoisseur, not a flavor snob. If you want really early, I would recommend 4th of July (very early), Stupice, and Kotlas. While you are at it, don't forget to plant some actual cherry tomatoes: Sungold, Sunsugar and Sweet 100s are good and I never get tired of them. You might also consider Jaune Flamme. Early and quite productive. I also like Red Brandywine and Box Car Willie as excellent replacements for things like Early Girl. They are not quite as early as Early Girl, but both of them are much more productive and taste much better, too. For late tomatoes, I do like Black Krim (sometimes), Cherokee Chocolate (I know it is supposed to really be identical in flavor to Cherokee Purple - but to me it is better, and Aunt Ruby's German Green. I also like Yellow Brandywine and Brandywine OTV (but I DO NOT like regular 'pink' Brandywine, whether it is Suddath's strain or any other). [Shocking?] Okay, you've got me going. Here is a more complete list of some of my personal favorites. It is organized by SIZE, and, of course, LARGER SIZE GENERALLY MEANS A LATER TOMATO: CHERRY TOMATOES Isis Candy (despite being a cherry, this one isn't early), Black Cherry, Rose Quartz or Sweet Quart, Sungold, Green Grape MEDIUM AND SMALL TOMATOES Green Zebra, RED Brandywine (NOT Pink Brandywine or just plain Brandywine), Lemon Boy, Little Lucky Mule Team, Box Car Willie LARGE TOMATOES Marianna's Peace, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Cherokee Chocolate, Lucky Cross, Black Krim, Big Beef EXTRA LARGE OR LATE TOMATOES THAT ARE EXCELLENT Beefmaster, Coustralee, Italian Sweet, Mortgage Lifter

Another vote for AZOYCHKA> It is early/mid , very productive , good balanced taste. I have also grown pineapple. I likes it but it was on the late side for me. There are so many yellow/orange/gold varieties. How about Russian Orange ? It seems to be very popular. But it is said to have 90+ DTM.(red light !) I am also going to grow another Russian yellow: SAKHARNYI ZHELTYI. for the first time. It is supposed to be sweet and mid season. Some people swear by KB and KBX. I grew KB in 2015. I have never really got along with screens - I don't watch TV. I have relied on books when I want information or entertainment. Back when I was a new gardener, I subscribed to a couple of magazines but quickly concluded that there was always an agenda (usually to sell stuff) and I was even more irritated by the glossy perfection of featured gardens (which I certainly didn't recognise)...but mostly, the tedious predictability of continually catering to garden novices. I do find the internet has value but in general, there is an emphasis on branding, personalities, aspirational BS. I find myself looking at short videos such as 'how to light a Tilley lamp', 'how to do German short rows', 'how to sharpen a chainsaw' but have had very little compulsion to watch TV gardening. Whilst Mr.primula was waiting for a sports channel, one of those garden makeover programmes was playing in the background.. ('Love your garden', I think) .I was dismayed and offended by the whole concept - spend hundreds (thousands) of £££ to make a garden in 24 hours. Rubbish. Not gardening, just shopping. Presided over by grinning nitwits. There is nothing of interest to me. And, afaics, this is amplified on YouTube and subscription social media. So, apart from other gardeners, books (especially plant monographs) are still my main source of information... but again, you have to be prepared to trawl through a lot of utter rubbish but these are usually clearly signalled: written (ahem) by celebrities, heavy on illustration, light on text,
