Proof I have a black thumb

I planted pumpkins about 2 months ago in a prepared bed with irrigation, that I tend to almost daily to weed, kill pests, and mulch when the weather started to heat up. It is barely hanging on and looks so pathetic I am seriously thinking about pulling it up and replanting.

On my front walk I have a bed of basalt landscaping rocks that were placed on top of a weedmat about 3 years ago. There is a rhododendron bush there, so it is also irrigated. Last fall we had set a couple of pumpkins on it that were then buried by an early season snowstorm and basically rotted in place. About 2 weeks ago I spotted a pumpkin seedling emerge from the rock bed. It is now bigger and has more leaves than the one in my prepared garden.

I can hear the one from my garden screaming, "No! Stay away from me! Leave me alone!"
