EarthTainer vs simple Rubbermaid bin; watering question

I love the concept of the EarthTainer and may even try some fall tomatoes this way. We have huge rainwater tanks, so conserving water isn't really a concern. What other benefits could I expect from using a system like the EarthTainer as opposed to simply an open container?

2nd question - in another post I saw a mention of using an attachment made for the EarthBox. It looked like something that would attach to a watering system. If I put one of these on each of my EarthTainers, could I then connect it to the rainwater tank and have the entire system be continously filling the reservoirs?

ps I was impressed by the article in the Dallas News, but moreso when I found out the developer was a Garden Web member. :)
