Concrete vs. Pavers for Pool Deck????
Comments (10)A fiberglass shell MUST have at least a two foot and preferably a 3 foot concrete collar. This provides added weight and rigidity, especially if the pool needs to be emptied for service needs. Concrete crack formation can be minimized by using certain techniques that may add to the up front cost. Some masons cut these corners to come in on a job at a lower cost. Cut corners may include improper soil prep, fewer expansion joints, cheap mix, thin spots, and a litany of other potential variables. While it's true that even with the extra steps taken, concrete may still form a crack, it creates a surface that will last decades and will be unaffected by a salt cell's use. A swimming pool salt water chlorine generator won't create cracks or make them worse. Someone is swinging the FUD bat. FWIW, pavers are usually made of concrete, just in smaller pieces. Some regions actually pour a concrete bed first. Sea water is a different animal than water in a pool. It's a different salt and in a different concentration plus there are a lot of other factors that are different. What the ocean does to concrete and steel vs. what pool water does is comparing apple to oranges. Scott...See MoreConcrete Resurface pool deck
Comments (3)I would charge you at least $8.50 for removal and then a stamped job. Removal is not as easy as it sounds and the grinding wheels are not cheap either. If you are in IN are you using elite crete brand by any chance? I love their products, they are headquartered there near Valparaiso I believe. Their colors have so much more depth than other brands we've used. Hope you can post pix when done. Did SW offer to do anything about the chipping? Take care, Barb...See MoreConcrete Coating for Deck
Comments (7)I used Allied Outdoor Solutions last year to pour a concrete patio and install a hot tub in the backyard of my new home after interviewing a few companies, and Allied seemed like the best company to go with. Positives: The employees were really nice, and they did a quality job on the patio and installation of the stone around the hot tub. They did a great job setting up and taking down the project, so we didn't have to do anything to assist in completing the project. Negatives: Allied was not timely in installing the patio. After we moved into the home and contracted Allied, it took about 4-5 months for them to start and complete the project. Allied used a local sprinkler company to come and adjust my sprinkler lines in the yard to accommodate for the patio. The sprinkler company changes the zones in my sprinkler panel, and then adjusted the sprinkler heads in my front yard. I contacted Allied, the job is still under warranty, and they denied doing anything to change the zones on my sprinklers or that they messed with the sprinkler heads in the front yard. Well, the sprinkler company did, because the owner told me face to face that he did in my front yard after the project, but that everything should be working better. Conclusion: While Allied did a great job with the patio, they really did and it is very nice, they are not timely and the do not hold up their end of the warranty....See MoreEstimate for entire concrete deck replacement
Comments (7)Your best bet would be to call a concrete construction contractor or a pool construction contractor. I looked at your pool picture on the other thread. If you had less than 400sq/ft I'd charge 15+-per sq/ft, and if you had around 750sq/ft I'd be around 11+-. This is a job where I look more at the amount of the total invoice than I do at the unit pricing. I'd want 4500-5000 on a small 300+- deck, around 7500 for a mid sized 700+-, and 10000 if it was a deck around 1000 square. This would be a demo, haul-off, and re-pour quote. My area is SE Texas, and our prices may be lower than your area. I hope this helps. See ya, Kelly...See Moreichabod
