Landscape Design Design Dilemma garden

Landscape help please

I am in Michigan Zone 6. Front of house faces south. I am looking for easy care landscaping ideas for front of house on both sides of porch. The desired landscape area is approx. 10 feet deep. Excuse grass as it is still coming in. Thanks in advance.

I really love the look of a conifer garden... at least on one side.

I like modern homes without landscaping. I'd place smooth black Mexican river stones in the area. The area is so large though I think you might also need 3- 5 -7 low growing Juniper (ground cover type shrubs) here and there amid the stones.

Ruth, I will tell you a simple way to make a bed. Just get a tape measure and mark off an equal distance from the wall of the house, say five feet. Then cut and remove the grass on that line. Since the bed is already there I would measure it at its deepest and use that distance down the length of the house. Like this:I like the more rounded bed around the tree so I would leave that. I am not a fan of anything over five or six inches growing forward of the path so if it were my garden I would reseed grass in the cut out strip that follows the path to the driveway. On the South side of the house I would straighten out the lawn strip like below. I am a big fawn of lawn so this is what I would do. Another alternative is to remove it from the area and install groundcover. I did not take the time to fill in along the path but it is what I would want. As you can see, I am not a professional. These are just my personal tastes.

Making suggestions from afar depends on you showing, as best you can, what you have. Since landscaping addresses all areas at once, it's more or less the way we need to see it ... as if we were standing there. The best technique for capturing a single scene -- from not too far away -- is by taking slightly overlapping pictures that pan from left to right. The first picture above is part of the scene we need to see. Return to the spot where it was taken and add the slightly overlapping pictures that would show the other (left) side of the walk. (The camera will pivot for each picture, not change locations. The doorway itself will show in the interconnecting picture, linking the two garden plots into a single scene.) If we're only addressing the two plots immediate in front of the house, that's all we need. If you want more of the front yard addressed, you'll need to back up with the camera and show that complete scene. Always you want to show more than you think we need to see by pivoting the camera far left and far right.

I did not show you more panorama, because i do not want to confuse you with the rest of landscape, where I have already some ideas . I want to focus on this side. This part bothers me. I want to do some nice view without replanting fruit trees.

It looks like you have room for a small tree or two...spaced and placed toward the front of the lot....this would lessen the need for such an intense plan at the entry.....and incorporate the whole lot with the home better....try calling a local tree farm ....there may be some flowering varieties ...trees with colorful leaves,or even fruit trees that will flourish in your location...most of the intense plantings will be laborious to keep as any planting that fails will leave an obvious hole ...

You should search for front gardens in Houzz and pick photos. Put "garden style" in the Houzz search bar then pick stories.

Then decide what elements you like. Here's one with some evergreens, grasses and hydrangeas.

For low maintenance, I would go with low-growing evergreens that don't require pruning and don't block any windows. You can always tuck in some annuals for more color during the growing season.

The brickwork on the house is lovely. I wouldn't cover it up. Use a low-growing groundcover for a neat, uniform look that will complement the style of the house.

I would suggest visiting a good garden center/nursery in your area and see what's available. They should be able to able to give you advice on what will survive and thrive.
