Concrete Resurface pool deck

Hello--I am getting pool deck estimates to have the concrete resurfaced. I posted a while back about the awful mess the deck is in with pitting and the application of a Sherwin Williams pool stain we used is peeling.

Question is this;

Does $6.50 seem like a in the ball park range for removing the SW stain and adding an overlay with a faux flagstone look? We live in Indiana and the cost is actually more the what it cost to have the concrete poured.

Any insight would be appreciated.

We had a spraydeck like knock-down epoxy texture put down and sprayed with a color for $2/ft. We had a similar product ground off for $1/ft. We are in Houston area - usually one of the cheapest. I imagine a stone look would be quite a bit more - but maybe this gives you a cheaper alternative to consider. Good luck.

you can rent a machine to grind concrete--one that even has a bag to suction off the dust I think--if you are semi-handy with tools that would be something to consider...
there are a variety of blades/grinding pads just like sandpaper grits...

my daughter is considering that for house they bought in FL that has Jackson Pollock type paint on concrete floors INSIDE the house...they just want stained concrete...

Another loud vote for pavers. They don't crack, provide more visual interest, are less slippery, and are far more flexible than concrete if you need to redesign your hardscaping (e.g. add or remove a walkway, create an area for a planter, etc.). Plus, I think they're timeless....cobblestone and brick walkways have existed for literally hundreds of years.

When our dog was getting too old to manage the steps on/off the deck, we built her a ramp and painted it with a similar product (some sort of deck resurfacer from a big-box store). Husband said the paint was thick and goopy, alot more difficult to spread than typical paint or stain. But it worked great, gave our dog (and us humans) good traction without being unpleasant underfoot. It's been three or four years, and still looks very good. But it's not cheap. Husband is considering re-doing our deck, and calculated that new boards would be about the same price as using this product. So instead we'll probably try re-staining it and kick the problem a few more years down the road. Good luck with your decision!

I would charge you at least $8.50 for removal and then a stamped job. Removal is not as easy as it sounds and the grinding wheels are not cheap either. If you are in IN are you using elite crete brand by any chance? I love their products, they are headquartered there near Valparaiso I believe. Their colors have so much more depth than other brands we've used. Hope you can post pix when done. Did SW offer to do anything about the chipping? Take care, Barb
