Privacy hedge/plants for damn, narrow space behind pool

Hi there,
Last year we put in a pool and deck and were left with a long narrow strip behind the pool and in front of our back fence that we would like to put in some privacy hedges or plantings.
I'm looking for suggestions. We are in Ontario, Canada in zone 6a. It is damp back there because of a sloped grade (which is why we couldn't do a completely in-ground pool) but that part of the yard gets a lot of sunlight all afternoon. Also, whatever is planted will have about 2-3' of shade at the bottom because the back of the pool comes up above ground because of the slope. I'm thinking of doing columnar emerald cedars (6') because of the dampness and for privacy. Do you think they would work back there? I've attached photos.
Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated!
