Potting mix for plants that crave moisture?

I have an oddball tree, a Giant Star Potato Tree (Solanum Macranthum) that is currently in a 3 gallon pot and desperately needs to be potted up.

It is the most mobile plant I've ever owned. In the morning it stands straight and tall. When I get home in the evening it is limp, bent in half, and within minutes of watering the darn thing stand up again! It appears to be in typical nursery potting mix, pine/peat based. It sure looks nice and moist when I water it every morning, but is dry as dust when I get home 12 hours later.

What mix would help keep it moist, but not cause root rot?

I have to work, I can't babysit this one thirsty plant(G).

I'm out of CHCs, but have Pine Bark Fines, Potting mix from The Bushel Stop, and Orchid mix. Also access to anything else is easy, except for CHCs and Aliflor.

Help please!

Lisa
