Privacy, same old story, blah blah blah

Long story short, trash neighbors, ugly rusty chain link fence, crap in yard, nasty people, need to make them disappear.

Conditions, zone 6, northwest side of house, (more north than west). Strip is about 15' wide x 30" long. Area gets some morning sun, then changes over the dappled shade and a few spots of complete shade by late afternoon due to shadow from the house. Two mid size Sugar Maples are centered in the strip.

I like cone shaped Yews and would like to use them for a privacy screen. However the rest of my yard is very informally landscaped, and I would ideally like to accomplish this in a similar informal way. I am trying to avoid the "straight line of shrubs" thing. Can anyone suggest a design on how I can accomplish this?

Beside Yews, I have been considering Mountain Laurel, Rhododenrons and ornamental grasses. Tall, but not more than 4' wide is the desired outcome.

thanks in advance
