For the first few, you might try seedman.com if you're willing to buy. I know they have both kinds of walnuts, and hazelnut too. Hickory as well, though not almonds. And probably pecans. I'd love to know if anyone finds a decent source for pistachio or almonds.

Pecans seem to do well. I planted a self polinating 1yr old almond tree 2 yrs ago. Got two almonds this last summer. Would like to try pistachio. Especially if they are drought tolerant. My Q/problem is to water or not to water?.... I live at 8,600 ft in NEW Mexico. My water is from a well. So far it,s holding. The last watering was on NOV 1ST. No rainfall,or snow since. By now i'm usally 4+feet in snow. Have 3yr old trees 2 john apple-2 peach-2cherrie-1 almond+4 apricot. I am afraid they will die. But if I water wont they thik its spring sprout then die with the march freeze? If anyone can help please post.thank you

These things (Italian Stone Pines) show up in many many places in grocery stores and home depot starting in early December as living Christmas trees. We see them every year here. The ones sold are usually about 12-15" tall, some may be a little taller. I will say their zone rating should go down to a 7A, not 8. Quite a few people have planted these out in yards after Christmas and have them growing in their yards as far north as central New Jersey, and maybe even farther north along the coast. They are not that uncommon to see here in the D.C. area either and on farther south. So, if you really want to try one look in your local grocery store, or HD or Lowes in December and you very well may find them. They are usually tagged right and will say Italian Stone Pine on the tag. I see them here every December by the hundreds. You could always try protecting it, or keeping it in a container and protecting it, bringing it in in the coldest part of winter, or building a green house for it. They usually sell for around $7-15.00 or so here. Not a huge price to pay for a sizable living plant.
