Cucumber seedlings - too fast? Peppers - too slow?

I've started some burpless slicing cucumber seeds in a flat with a lid. I watered well and set in a south facing window in the kitchen at about 72 degrees.

The little plants came up almost 3" in 4 days. Is this normal or too fast? I lifted the lid to give them room. I can't put them outside for another month or so. I'm afraid I'll have cucumber plants all over the kitchen and the cats will eat them. I'm also concerned that they are too spindly.

Is there a problem here? My tomatoes in the same flat are at 1/2", my peppers have not come up yet (I hope they will). - Thanks
