Your house is a fine one story Colonial Revival. A traditional Cape would have a steeper roof without dormers, no porch, no portico or any classical features like columns or pediments. A good choice would be a paint grade exterior wood panel door from TruStile in Colorado. They have more choices than any other company and it is easy to design a door with their design software. Nice home. You really have a lot if options based on the colors in your bricks. What colors do you like? Which don't you like? Since the shutters arent changing & appear to be close to BM Salamander, what about BM Winter Lake or Squirrel Tale? Try finding a color in their online gallery close to the shutters & check the suggested coordinated colors. Best of luck.

First thing's first- you have insurance on your house, right? Your belongings can be replaced- a family member you cannot. I just bought my first house, which was built in '73. It too has two exterior doors that had the keyed lock on it. Due to being a fire saftey hazard (and a new city code violation), I changed out the locks. So each door has one dead bolt, and the knobs have the little turn buttons. One thing that I did differently on the changeout was to install the jam striker plates with screws long enough to go into the actual framing joist (I used 3" screws), not just the door dam facial board. Theives these days are just kicking in the doors for access as it's not that hard to break out the half inch thick facial board. It's a lot harder to break out the framing joist. On a side note, if you can find a security system sticker to put in the window...

We recently painted our front door with sidelights and know what you're going through. What we did before painting was drive thru neighborhoods to see what others had done and that helped us decide what to do with ours. We noticed that some painted them all the same color but others painted them contrasting colors or matched the sidelights with the windows and painted the door a separate color to make it stand out.
