Mari, Chalk Hill probably has the biggest selection of clematis of any mail order source that I know of. Chalk Hill sends larger plants (pot sizes are 4 in. x 9.5 in.)than Brushwood (quart sized) but both send plants that are large enough to be directly planted in the garden. Brushwood's per plant prices are typically $14.95 but a few specific clematis cost more and there are some that are reduced in price @$12.95. Dan at Brushwood is also running a special right now where you get $5 off the purchase of 3, $10 off the price of 6, etc. Plants from Chalk Hill typically run $16.95 but some are higher and they usually have a few on special that are $12.95 each (none were listed at my last perusal of the site). Brushwood's plant prices include shipping costs whereas Chalk Hill's prices don't include shipping and there is a handling fee. As a result, shipping from Chalk Hill can be rather high if you only purchase few clematis, but the overall shipping costs go down the more you order from them. I typically tend to order from Brushwood first and then order the ones Dan at Brushwood doesn't have from Murray at Chalk Hill. Both nurseries offer quality plants in any case. You cannot go wrong with Hallsons. I plan to place an order for fall planting very soon. Others are good: "White Oak" "Plant Delight's" "Hosta Patch". Hallsons just seem to be a little more personal. And knowing that they test for that virus (which I did not know that they did until I read this post)....well it certainly makes them all the more trustworthy to me. I go with the others only when they don't have a specific hosta that I am looking for.

I have my DMIL ship me pecans from her hometown, San Saba, TX. They have a big pecan processing (i.e. shelling) facility and the pecans are grown in the area. I haven't shipped from the farms before, but a quick Google gave me a couple that will ship. They are sold by the pound; I think it's good deal, though not super-cheap. The main thing is, these nuts are much, much sweeter than any I have ever purchased in a store, including Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I have heard they have good seed. A year ago I called and left a message and it got misplaced. In the meantime I got seed from elsewhere. But Mr. Hogan called me back when he found the note a couple weeks later and even though I wasn't going to be a customer, he took time to discuss my plans and discuss the best ways to get good germination. He seemed a good source of information and advice. His prices a year ago were in line with other vendors.
