Your recommendations for mail-order source of...

Walnuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios and the like are very, very expensive on the grocery store shelves.

Have you ever ordered any of these items online?

Any place you would recommend?

Do you have a Trader Joe's? I think they are quite a bit cheaper at TJ's. Don't know anywhere online though.

I buy nuts from Trader Joes and Costco.
Online sources I'm not sure of..Probably best to do a search and find some that are "local" farmers for the area..I did a search last year for Pecans. I looked for places like Alabama, Georgia and such, because in my mind that's where "I" think they come from..
I can't remember my quest clearly..but I do know that I did NOT place any online orders..Just went to Costco instead.

I just got Cornelia from Countryside Roses. They and Nor'East miniatures had the nicest plants by far that I purchased this season, and I bought from several of the popular bare-root antique rose vendors. The plants were bigger than bands for the same price or less, with larger root systems and much healthier than those from some other sources. This was my first time buying from them, and I couldn't be more pleased. I just wish they had more gallicas, damasks, and albas, and they would be my sole source for new roses.

ceraholt: In my experience, none of those pink daffs are ever pink - the best I've seen in my garden is somewhat apricot, and these are bulbs from Botanus and Vesey's, both places I would highly recommend - order their catalogues and do some comparison price shopping with Brecks. I have never found the quality and variety in nurseries to be the same as that I have purchased from these companies - also, they will refund/replace bulbs which don't come up generally, and nurseries (like Humber which I frequent) do not offer the same deal. I also recommend Valley K for lilies - mine are three years old now and simply awesome!!!

I usually go to Trader Joes for those...althugh I've found I can get better almonds and pistachios for less at well-stocked middle eastern store.

Try BulkFoods.

I've bought some of their stuff. The price gets better the more you buy. Postage and handling is one price and doesn't change no matter what you buy.

I like their steel-cut oats and their raisins are plump and moist. --Ilene

I order all my pecans from the Whaley Pecan Co. in Troy, Alabama. I've never had a bad experience and have ordered from them for well over 10 years.

I have my DMIL ship me pecans from her hometown, San Saba, TX. They have a big pecan processing (i.e. shelling) facility and the pecans are grown in the area. I haven't shipped from the farms before, but a quick Google gave me a couple that will ship. They are sold by the pound; I think it's good deal, though not super-cheap. The main thing is, these nuts are much, much sweeter than any I have ever purchased in a store, including Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I highly recommend giving these a try.

Maybe nuts are cheaper here...but I looked at all those websites and thought the prices were much higher than what I can get at the grocery store locally.

Hands down, the best big, fat, fresh pecans I've ever had are from J.W. Renfroe Pecan Co. in Pensacola, FL. A friend who lived in Pensacola gifted me with 5 lbs. of their wonderful pecans! They grow most of what they sell. After the 2004 hurricanes, they got they pecans from Georgia and Texas. I did order then, and the Renfroe people were really, really, picky about what they sold from others! Great products, and less expensive than the grocery stores.

This is where I buy ALL my locally grown nuts right here in the San Juaquin Valley of California... it just doesn't get any fresher. And, try their raisins, nothing like you get out of the box from your grocery.
