I pulled up bulbs this morning

I pulled up some bulbs yesterday. There was foilage already showing. They were inappropriate for the area they were in, and I wanted to clear out the bed.

ANYWAY, is there any way that these can be saved, dried, or replanted in another area. I thought I would ask before I just threw them in the compost pile.

I really don't know what kind they are, so that's not much help.

Anyway............any ideas????

Since you don't know what they are, just replant them in another area asap and they will probably be fine.

There was foilage already showing.
Foliage is just now emerging, and you don't know what they are? Depending upon where you are, if they were spring blooming bulbs, they would have either bloomed by now, or at least be budded?

Might they be summer blooming bulbs like lilies? Are you in a warmer climate that they might be glads? Got pics?

At any rate...like the above poster said, they will likely survive somewhere else...just leave as much of the foliage in tact as possible. Knowing what they are, would give you a clue as to how deep they should be planted.

Rane_grow, nice looking little melon there. Hope they all mature and what a nice break in the afternoon to cut or bust one open. Dang Farmerdilla! Bet that is a sight to see them shooting the canonball watermelons. No, I have never attended that festival. Cordele celebrates with a watermelon festival every year and maybe one day I will get a chance to attend it. Judging from the looks of them I figure these were the ones left in the field after they harvested the ones for retail. Susan, one of my late bro-in-laws ues to plant yellow meated Moon & Stars and they were quite tasty. Have never tried the Stargazers. Pat, never too late to visit your dad in Florida... and go shopping in a farmers market... buy a couple of nice melons and relive some of your childhood days. The drought pretty well done in my butterbeans, but recently I plowed them and added more nitrogen in hopes they will make a second crop of beans. My sister has a small garden that she was able to keep watered and she had loads of butterbeans. Shot

If you are looking straight ahead, without lifting your eyes from the horizon - that's 0 degrees. If you are looking straight up in the sky - that's 90 degrees. Been thinking about this. That big tuft isn't crabgrass. I can't tell what it is, but it isn't that. If you are worried about all those other little grassy weeds in there and don't want to do a whole lot of back breaking labor or using chemicals....then I would suggest cardboard. It doesn't look like a big area, so use that cardboard that you'd put in recycling. Save up enough to lay it all around your desirable plants...leaving enough for water to get through around the plants' roots, and then put fresh new mulch on top. You'll smother the small weeds, prevent more from popping up, and at this time of the year in Sac, wet the cardboard a bit before throwing down the mulch. You should get some really high ground temps that might inactivate some of those weed seeds as well in the top layer. It'll look great and brand new too. The cardboard biodegrades over time. As for that tuft, yeah, I don't know what it is, but it doesn't look like an invasive species to me...and it likely isn't a grass at all. The closest resembling grass I can think of is Johnson grass. This looks ornamental.

Dahlia. No question. They might recover but you've pulled off this year's growth and flowering stems. If there are no remaining eyes they might have trouble recovering.

you can plant the bulbs in another location. leave the green foliage on and even water. most likely the foliage will just turn yellow die off. thats ok. they should come back next year and then you can identify them. if you already cut the green foliage off or left them in the compost pile for awhile. you can still plant and water with the same results for the following year. i created a gardening file on my computer the lists thing to do spring and fall also, placement of where i have planted flowers.
