Nice melons, Farmerdilla, you must be pleased! I enjoyed your story about one of your first dates with your wife.

I had a little rabbit fence around my produce garden the first couple of years I lived in New Mexico. The dogs I had at that time knew that they were supposed to respect that little fence. Although they could easily get over it, they stayed out of the garden.

I live in a rural area. People from town come out here and dump unwanted puppies. I take the abandoned pups in when I find them on my property. I took in three one year. Two of them turned out to be watermelon hounds! First they thought the young melons made dandy balls to play with, then they discovered they could eat them. I managed to rescue one watermelon for myself. They ate about forty melons. The produce garden has a new, BIGGER fence!

GRANDPOP, here is how my good friend ESH_GA over in the Georgia Gardner taught me.
Go to PHOTOBUCKET.COM and open an account - it's free.
Then upload photo(s) to it. (you can create albums - ex. garden, hobby, family, etc)
At the bottom of a photo you will see HTML.CODE. Left click it with mouse and you should see COPIED appear in yellow momentarily.
In your message where you want the photo to appear just right click mouse and select PASTE. You should see a bunch of code appear. Select PREVIEW MESSAGE and you should see your message with photo as it appears to us.

Thanks much - I think I tried every code but that one. For practice, here's a pic of some stuff I took to the local farmers market awhile back. I post on a couple of bbq forums and they are all different - confusin for an old man.

Hey, I'm an old bbqer myself :) Probably not as good as you. Have three grills, a Weber gas for quick steaks or chops (last night was brats), a Brinkman smoker (round type that I mostly smoke ribs & butts on) and a large homemade grill when I get serious with it for indirect heat. See that yours has firebox also. Nice grill.

My dad was renown for bbqing goat. Once a year we have a family reunion and slow cook a 100 lbs of boston butts then do a pull pork on them.

Shot, those are downright purty melons. Finally got a rain yesterday afternoon. If the vines did not get too stunted, May be enought to get a few decent melons on the second set. First set are barely bigger than cantaloupes. I agree on cool versus cold watermelons. Use to keep them in the spring. Perfect.

Good photo grandpop. Other than being a two step process its preety easy. Refuse to let you young whippersnappers get the best of me.

Farmerdilla, you made me drool all over my keyboard. Looks like you just busted one open. Would have to dig the heart out with me bare hands. The sweetest yellow meated I ever had I bought at a roadside stand between Lumber City (GA) & McRae. By golly, gonna plant a few of them next year. Thank you sir!

Hope this pic works, first time I have ever grown watermelon and cantaloupes ... the sugar baby in this pic is one of about 6 I have growing and its a thrill to see how it has grown so fast !

My dad planted Stargazers (a hybid) and Moon & Stars (an heirloom) this year. Moon & Stars was always my favorite, but doggone if the Stargazers weren't even better! My horses waited until mine were about 6" in diameter and the vines started crawling under the fence and they pulled every one of them up and ate them all. Lesson learned. Next year I'll plant the squash by the fence--they hate them.

Wow, awesome melons! This is when I start to envy you southern gardeners. Then when the butter-beans come along I'm really green.....

Never had one of those yellow-fleshed ones. I remember busting open watermelon right in the field as a kid and eating it warm like that, Shot.

Rane_grow, nice looking little melon there. Hope they all mature and what a nice break in the afternoon to cut or bust one open.

Dang Farmerdilla! Bet that is a sight to see them shooting the canonball watermelons. No, I have never attended that festival. Cordele celebrates with a watermelon festival every year and maybe one day I will get a chance to attend it. Judging from the looks of them I figure these were the ones left in the field after they harvested the ones for retail.

Susan, one of my late bro-in-laws ues to plant yellow meated Moon & Stars and they were quite tasty. Have never tried the Stargazers.

Pat, never too late to visit your dad in Florida... and go shopping in a farmers market... buy a couple of nice melons and relive some of your childhood days.

The drought pretty well done in my butterbeans, but recently I plowed them and added more nitrogen in hopes they will make a second crop of beans. My sister has a small garden that she was able to keep watered and she had loads of butterbeans.
