Tulip bulbs are blah no color pale, pale yellow

I got some really nice healthy looking bulbs at SAM'S CLUB that were supposed to be bright yellow and bright pink. They all came up very pale not white not yellow ?? Any ideas??

That's the variety you bought....nothing you did....that;'s just the color of that tulip.

When you buy bulbs from stores like Sam's Club, they may not come out as pictured.

Fernwood green was too, well clear and sharp for my bedroom, so I asked my BM store employee to print out the formula for 25% Brookside Moss and for Fernwood green. It allowed me to determine that a different base, along with addition of black in the Brookside, meant 25% Brookside wouldn't look like Fernwood Green. Fernwood green components are Yellow and Gray, but in my low light room was clear and bright like you describe. If you want to compare the two colors, you might have your store print out Limesickles formula and compare it to FG 25% to see how close they are....if you want to test several colors and percentages, you might order test samples at myperfectcolor.com in the percentage you want; the price recently went up a buck or so, but you can get pints of colors fairly reasonably. terry, who tested 5 green combos to arrive at a decision

I so appreciate everyone's comments. I went last week and got multiple chips of the same colors, taped them together (so my sample spot is a whopping 4" long instead of 1x1, but still, every little bit helps). Jagl, that Maison Blanche color is really lovely, and so is China Doll, which is quite close to it. But in the end I'm guessing we'll do Moderate White, which is a white with lots of tan in it. Marys1000, thanks for the tip about that brochure full of off-whites -- that's how I found the Moderate White. And I'm liking Sand for my kitchen and DR, so perhaps I'm close to making a decision. I think I'll live with it for a few days. Randita, thanks for the help with the finishes! I've heard good things about the Cashmere paint, but my boys (and husband!) are capable of marking up walls in places where you wouldn't think any marks would get, so I should probably go with eggshell for the bedroom. Much appreciated. You guys are great. Thanks for the input and the pics. I'll post again when I finally make my mind up!

Hi - these 2 colours sit increasingly further clockwise on the Color Strategist Wheel, away from Pale Oak. They will likely apoear a a little cooler by comparison. So in your setting, they are somewhat less likely to shift quite as pinky-purple. Sometimes, just moving a few degrees can make a difference, sometimes you may have to move a whole lot further to mitigate colour shift. These are a both a touch darker (lower Value) than Pale Oak + more colourful (higher Chroma). They have the capacity to appear a little greenish where Pale Oak reads well for you. But maybe less likely to do so where Pale Oak looks a little pink/purple. If either is too dark? Then you need a colour with higher Value. If either is too colourful? Then you are looking for a colour with a lower Chroma. If these still read too pinkish? Then moving further clockwise again could help mitigate that. Viewing large paint chips or samples in your space, with your lighting will help indicate how they are likely to behave for you. #huefamilies #value #chroma

Yes Remy's right. The big box stores and discount clubs often don't come true. You get what you pay for. Check out the full service nurseries next time. You may be surprised how competitive they are. This spring I got a package of 2 picotee begonia tubers from HD. They were small and pitiful and cost almost $5. I happened to be at a full service nursery and the same tubers were 4x size and only $4.40 for the two. So the box stores don't always have the best deal price or quality wise...

I have the same problem. My tulips just came up and they are all a very pale yellow color. Last year, they were all different colors and were very vibrant. What is going on??

They probably are mismarked. But some of my tulips have muddy colors at first that color up nicely as they mature.

I've never heard of a tulip changing color like you are describing, NJGard. Perhaps they were overplanted with different tulips and then forgotten?
