None of the baby's breath I planted have thorns.

No thorns.....and they are very slow growers!

How about pointy leaves at the base of the stems?????

Baby's breath, gypsophilia, has many varieties....repens, snowflake Bristol fairy etc....
All have greyish pointy leaves along the stem, the leaves are not glossy....and of course should be beginning to flower by now.
It's the plant on the right with the blue/grey leaves in this pic.

I believe you have yourself some sort of an amaranth there....the gardner was right to pull it out. Not going to do much but get big and throw seeds all over.

I am guessing amaranth is a weed? I am sorry, my knowledge in gardening and plants is still in the developing stages. Is it a coincidence that I sowed gypsophila elegans seeds and got 2 amaranths in separate pots? I am going to throw in some seeds in a pot and see what happens. Thanks

yes...that looks like the weed Amaranthus we have growing around here. Too bad it wasn't Amaranthus caudata 'Love-lies-Bleeding'! The first pic sure looks like a young LLB plant. You have likely Amaranthus spinosus (Red Pigweed) or A. retroflexus (Redroot Amaranth).

i have baby's breath seeds that germinated and i was wondering if theres something wrong with them because they have like fuss all over them. they just sprouted and are covered with it. i dont know if its like mold or something? is it cause cause i have them in the laudry room?? do they need air?? sun???
