Zinnia fever!! (with pics)

Unable to find seeds for my favorite zinnias this year, State Fair and Burpee's Big Tetra, I loaded up with others: Burpee's Cactus-Flowered Mix, Livingston's Giant Cactus Double Mix, and Burpeeana Giants. I'd planned to grow some of these anyway. Then I wandered into K-Mart, and what did I find but State Fair and Big Tetra! After that I remembered that I've been wanting to try Benary's zinnias, so I ordered some seed.

Now I'm getting impatient. Temps here are still in the 30's at night. I started some seeds in little pots, and am so looking forward to enjoying the plants in bloom.

The Benary seeds, BTW, are the smallest I've ever planted. Does that sound right? I wouldn't even have recognized them as zinnia seeds.

Last year Zenman wrote a wonderfully informative post about zinnia form, and how the angle of the branches help determine how well they will do in a windstorm. I thought I'd saved that post, but I can't find it. The high winds today remind me that this is useful stuff to know.

Here are a few pics from last year's zinnias. What a great flower!
