Does Container Height Matter if there is wide Root Room?

I need to invest in more pots for plants and was debating between the Smart pot and something similiar which is almost double the price. The "advantage", I think to the more expensive ones are taht they are 12"-15" tall as opposed to only 9 or 10" tall, but have the same diameter.

If one is planting a plant such as a daylily, do you need more than a 10" depth to grow a HEALTHY plant for a few years in a fabric pot, or should I invest in the one that is taller by 3-5 inches? Any ideas?
