Has anyone made their own 'space saver' pots?

I have looked in catalogs at different space saving containers that have multiple holes for different plants.

Examples:

I have a lot of things I'd like to grow this year in my small yard (mostly veggies), and while I have though of some things to do to "create" more room for growing different things , I'd like to do more. Container gardening, similar to those in the above links, would be awesome. I have lots of areas around the yard and in the house near windows that I could hang stuff. Walmart has a 3 tier basket thing that is intended for kitchens. I bought one because they are cheap and I'm thinking of lining it with something that will hold soil and seeing if I can make it into 3 "pots" rather than 3 baskets. If I can, I will try snag some more of the 3 tier baskets from Walmart and make more.

Other than that, I really don't have any ideas quite yet. Have any of you guys took on a project like this? Any pictures of what you did or can you tell me what you did to make them?

I'd rather not spend 20$ per tower/hanging pot.

The one at cooks garden doesn't look too bad for the price because you get 2 for 7$ and I think with building some stuff it'd be 7$ to get the material to put one together.

But 20$ for the tower? That's too pricey for me. If I spend too much on the materials to grow the veggies, then Im not saving any money by growing them myself rather than buying my veggies at the store, lol
